They picked us up on-time very early morning from the hotel, and took us to the airport on-time for our flight. They also called our hotel to confirm the day before. No hassles, would use again.
My wife booked this adventure for us even though I was a little hesitant (non-swimmer here). Our adventure was scheduled for 12:00pm. We took a bus from Waikiki but were a little late, and discovered the boat had already left! Fortunately, the owner offered to take us out to meet the boat in his jet-boat, which was pretty awesome! We even stopped to see a whole bunch of dolphins along the way, and was an extra bonus to the adventure. Really appreciate the ride, thanks!
For others travelling from Waikiki by bus, I'd suggest aiming to get there an hour early. Bus 22 goes straight from central Waikiki to where you need to go, but it can be very packed to the point where it won't pick up additional passengers (so suggest intercepting it at an earlier stop towards the Hilton Village before it passes through the whole city towards the zoo). Also it only runs every 30 to 40 minutes, so if you miss it, be prepared for a plan-B.
Anyhow, once we got onto the main boat, we borrowed some wet-suits and prepared for our scooter ride! I was a little nervous, but everyone on the crew, from the captain to the divers, were super nice and supportive. You just go down the ladder on the side of the boat, grab on to the scooter (a diver is there to guide you), duck your head underwater to get it into the scooter bubble and you're done. The rest is just hanging on and enjoying the scenery.
There's a bit of pressure going down, and coming back up, so you'll need to hold your nose and swallow (divers will instruct you), but if you have some kind of inner-ear problem that could be affected by this, its something to consider (the sensation is much stronger than going on a flight or a very tall elevator).
The underwater adventure itself was fairly unique and memorable, especially for a non-swimmer! $100 is a fair bit of money, but it was definitely by far the most memorable part of the trip, and would do again 10x over! Thanks again to everyone involved for a great time!
Tour-guide was 20min late, although unavoidable due to various circumstances (lots of traffic in Waikiki at times + some late guests). It really helps if you have a local mobile phone number that you can be contacted on, or you can use to contact the tour guide provider in such cases.
The tour guide was informative and took us up the mountain, stopping along and offering to take photos at key vantage points. If you're with kids or elderly, or would like to take extra time, I guess it may be worth considering doing this on your own. The main advantage of the tour is the hotel pick-up and drop-off, but if you like to be slow, you could feel that this is a bit rushed.
For us it was perfect though, so no complaints. The mountain itself is kinda nice... but it's a fairly short climb and not super magnificent. If you've done lots of climbs or bush-walking before, this may seem fairly average and tame, but good for a quick tour. If you've never been to something like this before, I suppose you may get more out of it.
No regrets at the price though, definitely was worth it and would do it again.
SpeedyShuttle is located at a stand outside just after you exit onto the street. Ask one of the other shuttle-providers or airport staff if not sure where to go, but it was literally around 20 meters to the right of where we came out of the airport from.
Once we met the SpeedyShuttle staff, the confirmed our hotel drop-off, and also hotel-pickup that we booked separately and informed us where to wait. We waited about 10 minutes for the shuttle to arrive, and we were helped with our luggage. On the way to the airport the driver provided a mini-tour, pointing out some key areas and buildings, and generally trying to entertain the passengers, which was nice. Perhaps not the best material, but this is a transport shuttle to your hotel, so breaking the silence and attempting to get you in the holiday spirit was appreciated!
If/when we go to Hawaii again, we'll probably book this same service.
