Yosemite National Park and Giant Sequoias Trip

We booked this trip out of San Francisco. What a mistake. The good. Yosemite is an amazing place and we did see some amazing sites. Our tour guide/driver was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The BAD. It is at least a 4 hour ride to get to Yosemite. The company was to pick us up at 6:10 and showed up at about 7 with a van, that was already full. Can you imagine being stuffed in a van for 4 hours. So I complained and they got us on a bus (not a real one, it was a shuttle). The ride was terrible. Every bump in the road could be felt in the seat. Any good feelings I had about seeing Yosemite faded on the drive back to SF. I arrived sore, tired and disappointed. Had the transportation been of better quality it might have been alright. My suggestion, for the price you pay for the excursion, rent a car and even better stay the night in Yosemite. Again stay away from this deal.

My Review

We have take Duck Tours in various major cities over the years. This was not one of my favorites. The driver/guide was not well informed and appeared to be going through the motions. I was near the end of the business day which might account for the lack of interest on his part. That being said, it is a great way to get an idea of the city layout. Take the earliest available and it should be okay.

My Review
If a city has a duck tour we take it, usually on our first day. It is great fun but most of all it allows you to see the city so that you can map out your site seeing goals. Piece of advice . . . take the first one of the day and be early . . . the morning is cooler and the traffic is less.

Gettysburg Day Trip from Washington DC

My Review
The day trip consists of 3 parts - a model with narration of the battle of Gettysburg, a driving tour of the battlefield, and the Schriver House. The model is amazing and gives you a great visual idea of the battle. The narration that went with the model was just okay. In this day of multimeda it could have been better. The battlefield experience could have been better if there where more stops that included walking the field. The bus made about 4 stops on the battlefield. If you do not like to walk, this would be for you. If you want to walk and stare and imagine what happened that day, this is not for you. This was a disappointment for me. The Schriver House was the best part of the package. This is a restored house from the battle and gives you a glimpse into the live of the civilians in town during the battle. Our guide was knowledgeable and personable. This actually was the best part of the package. My suggestion is to drive to Gettysburg and tour the field on your own. There is plenty of roadway through the field and then go visit the Schriver House in town.

This is a great way to decide what you want to see. We did this the first night in DC and it helped orient us and helped plan our sightseeing objectives.

Ultimate Hoover Dam Tour

My Review
Considering that the tour was listed as the "Ultimate Hoover Dam Tour," it was just okay. We saw the dam, we walked across the dam, and we went inside, with limited access. The first two are free to anyone that shows up. In all fairness, the tour did include lunch and a side trip to a chocolate factory.

We did this during rush hour. It is worth doing in the morning. Be on the first one of the day and you will have a great experience.
