Paris Shuttle Departure Transfer: Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

Paris, France

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

The service was mostly as advertised. After arriving in CDG at 8 am and making the call for the van, it arrived 45 minutes later. There were 6 people waiting and then we had to wait for two more to arrive. The van was full and made 4 stops to drop off passengers at their respective hotels. As luck would have it, we were last. So we didn't get dropped off until after 11 am - 3 hours after we arrived. The van was fine, the driver was very nice but if I was doing it all again, I would probably make other arrangements.

Paris Walking Tour - The French Revolution

Paris, France

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was a great tour that filled-in gaps from many of the other tours we had taken. We went on this walk with our guide - Paul - late in our visit to Paris. We had already been to many of the primary Paris attractions but this tour of the streets and sites that were key during the revolution really provided perspective. Our guide had a deep knowledge of French history and all of the events and factors that led to revolution and it's aftermath. This was fascinating and well worth the time.

Montmartre and Sacre Coeur Walking Tour in Paris

Paris, France

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

My 3 star rating is not a reflection on the tour or our guide... I was just a little disappointed in the area. Surrounding Moulin Rouge is a long line of seedy live sex shows with guys out front recruiting patrons. As we walked the streets of Montmarte, working our way toward the top, the tour focused more the street art (graffiti) than the history or artists that once lived there. We did see the outside (3rd floor shutters closed) of a building that Van Gogh once lived in. The market, restaurants and spectacular view from Sacre Coeur are definitely worth the trip and the climb. So, Montmarte is "worth doing" but if your on a tight schedule in Paris, don't put this high on the list... or at least just go directly to the top for a quick visit.

Giverny and Versailles Small Group Day Trip from Paris

Paris, France

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

I guess everyone needs to experience Versailles if you want to really understand French history... particularly the excesses and extravagances that led to the French Revolution. It truly is an amazing place and a work of art in itself. However, I never thought I would see a site more crowded than the Vatican Museums in Rome but Versailles might have done that. Our guide was excellent and we were actually lucky to visit in early May. We can't imagine what it's like in mid-summer. Giverny was wonderful and we were amazed at how the gardens, the pond, the water lilies and the house looked just like so many of Monet's famous paintings. The lunch at an old mill was also very good. Great tour and guide!

Skip the Line: Eiffel Tower Tickets and Small-Group Tour

Paris, France

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We toured the Eiffel Tower on a gorgeous, clear, spring day and it was even more impressive that I thought it would be. Definitely take the time to go all the way up to the summit (3rd level)... truly spectacular. The information from our guide was very helpful and the "skip the line" ticket is worth the price of the tour all by itself.

Paris City Tour and Seine River Cruise

Paris, France

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We planned this tour for our 1st morning after arriving for a 10 day visit. We used it to get our bearings in Paris in the comfort of a tour bus and boat ride. It was the perfect way to start. We eventually made it back to everything on individual tours or exploring by ourselves but it was very helpful to get the insights of our guide and get a feel for where things were and how best to get to them. it was also great to see Paris from the river.

Skip the Line: Louvre Museum Walking Tour including Venus de Milo and Mona Lisa

Paris, France

My Review

Maybe on my 3rd or 4th trip to Paris I'll think of visiting the Louvre without a guide but never without a "skip the line" ticket. We would have definitely been lost without our guide. He knew exactly what first-time visitors want to see and he navigated us expertly both inside and out around the glass pyramids, Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, etc. It was a wonderful visit.
