Antonio was a delightful tour guide!! His deep passion for the art he was describing was apparent. He helped us to look for things we wouldn't have otherwise have noticed. His stories were very entertaining and he was personable and pleasant to spend the day with. We were in awe of the vast amount of knowledge he imparted to the group. We didn't have much time in Florence, and we felt we saw the most important things in Florence while we were there. Antonio had many background stories about the artists and in particular Michelangelo, which really made the art we were witnessing come alive. Antonio was a colorful character, and we enjoyed our tours of both galleries.
We took this tour with Claudia and I highly recommend this tour for English-speaking travelers. Claudia is an student of archeology, so the tour took on the "flavor" of seeing Ancient Rome through the eyes of an archeologist. We found Claudia to be a wealth of knowledge and information, as well as friendly and easy to understand. She made the Colosseum "come alive" for us and gave us lots of background information so we knew what we were looking at when we saw it. It was a pleasure to learn all about the vast history behind the ruins. She would show pictures of how things would have looked before and that was very helpful in visualizing the structures before age and time had worn them down. Looking at how high the soil would have been and walking on actual streets built by the Romans was very interesting after hearing Claudia describe it from the archeological perspective. Her description of how a real "day at the Colosseum" along with her play-acting the roles with Gladiators, the "lanista" and the Emperor, made the tour fun as well as a learning experience. Hail, Claudia!!
