What You Can Expect

Abu Dhabi Shore Excursion: Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Falcon Hospital

See falcons in flight at Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital!

When your ship is docked in Mina Zayed cruise port in Abu Dhabi, step ashore and travel independently into the city to the excursion starting point. Board your comfortable, air-conditioned coach and head for the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan Mosque, Abu Dhabi’s best-known landmark.

Usually known as the Grand Mosque, this vast place of worship is one of the world’s biggest mosques, and named after the late Sheikh Zayed, considered the founding father of the UAE.

Admire the gleaming white domes and minarets, and then go inside to view the opulent interiors with your guide. Extravagantly decorated with marble mosaics, crystal chandeliers and a colossal Persian carpet, the mosque boasts a huge prayer hall and was designed to accommodate around 40,000 worshippers.

Next, enjoy a panoramic coach tour of Abu Dhabi’s other landmarks. Snap photos of the monumental Emirates Palace Hotel and enjoy the views as you trace Abu Dhabi Corniche – the curving palm-lined waterfront — to the Breakwater marina, bobbing with billion-dollar yachts and famous for stellar views of the city’s skyscrapers.

Break for lunch (own expense), and, in the afternoon, visit the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, a modern health center for injured and sick falcons, the UAE’s national bird. Falcons are central to the national heritage, and these magnificent birds are revered as symbols of power and courage.

With a highly trained falcon carer, explore the clinical and health facilities, and hear how the hospital has extended its care to other avian species. Learn about the treatments on offer, and afterward, stroll to the outdoor aviary for an impressive flying display. If you wish, have a photo taken with some of the majestic birds before your tour concludes at the original starting point.
