What You Can Expect
First stop is Lourmarin for a photo stop against the backdrop of Lourmarin Castle – Provence’s first Renaissance castle. Continue by minivan along the scenic river valley of Combe of Lourmarin, and then arrive in the neighboring village of Bonnieux. Spend time at leisure here, perhaps visiting its 12th-century church or relaxing in the shade of its century-old cedar trees.
Travel through more swathes of soft-hued countryside, passing a Roman arched bridge called Pont Julien, and then take a stroll through the village of Roussillon – known for its orange clay cliffs that are tinged from the soil’s rich ochre pigments.
Before returning to Aix, visit Gordes, a cliff-top village, to soak up its dramatic view. Head back to Aix and finish your tour at the start point in the early evening.
If you have no car in Aix, it's a great little get-away for an afternoon out of the city. Provence lives up to expectations.
Excellent tour would not have wanted to drive this route ourselves. We ended up with private guided tour for just the two of us. Excellent sites. I had researched much of the history before hand....so we did not get a full history lesson which we love.... Afternoon gave us best lighting and visibility for photo shoots. Our guide was delightful and showed us interested countryside info....sheep herder huts, wash basins along the route, etc. We love this kind of info This tour is essential if you are staying in Aix....not to be missed! We took Viator through Spain...we are never disappointed! Viator site easy to use... We ended up with the same tour company suggested by our bike tour rep, but their site was difficult to use and not clear...so it was a win-win situation! We will stick with Viator!
A perfect afternoon - we enjoyed to have time to walk aroun on our own after having been informed about the attractions of the villages. We are especially grateful to the guide. She was very enthusiastic, helpful and crucial for the great trip.
We had a wonderful guide, who was very knowledgeable, interesting and funny! We only wish we had been allowed a bit more time in the last village, skipping the initial castle we visited.
I am a Travel Advisor with my own travel agency. Our tour guide Rino made our entire trip! He was very informative, friendly, and interactive with me and my children. We will remember our tour for many years to come because of him.
This was a wonderful tour. Our guide, Lea, was charming, fun, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed every minute of the tour perhaps not the heat so much, but Lea had no control over that. I would highly recommend this tour. We would not have been able to do this tour ourselves, and these villages are definitely NOT to be missed!
Our tour was great and the guide was very informative and wonderful!
There were 6 of us plus a driver-guide in a mini-van. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Most of the information was given while we were driving, so we had plenty of time to visit several villages on our own without having to stay with the group. I hate being herded around in large groups, so this experience was was perfect.
Amazing sites covered in just half day. The pace is just perfect to really enjoy and learn about the various sites.
