Get right off the beaten track in the Australian Outback on the 4WD camping safari. As well as visiting some of the Red Center's more famous icons such as Ayers Rock, the Olgas and Kings Canyon, you also experience such highlights as Palm Valley, Ormiston Gorge, Ellery Creek Big Hole and Standley Chasm. This is a tour for the true adventurer!

This 4WD camping safari gives you an in-depth experience of the Red Centre. From the more familiar icons such as the majestic monolith of Uluru (Ayers Rock), the domes of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and the rugged beauty of Kings Canyon, to the lesser known highlights of the Western MacDonnell Ranges, Palm Valley and the Wallace Rock Hole Aboriginal Community. This tour is designed for those who are looking for adventure and who want to experience the beauty of Central Australia whilst enjoying the reward of camping and meeting new friends.

This camping safari caters for those on a limited budget but still wanting to travel in a small group (18 passengers maximum). Although there is no hard work on the camping tour, its success does rely on the participation of all the passengers to help with things like cooking, collecting firewood and setting up camp each night. Passengers considering this tour should be in good health, young at heart and be prepared to experience an unforgettable camping adventure. Your tents are large ridge-pole (hut style) tents with 'swags' (Australian bush beds), sleeping sheets and sleeping bags included.

The large fleet of vehicles are fitted with air conditioning and designed for the rugged and harsh conditions of Central Australia. Their driver / tour guides are chosen for their vast knowledge of the country, fauna, flora and history and undertake a strict training program to graduate to this position. They are very conscientious and their prime concern is for their passenger's safety and being able to provide a memorable holiday.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Alice Springs to Yulara (L, D)
Departing Alice Springs, we head south, stopping for a short visit at the Outback Camel Farm (rides at own expense) and then heading straight to our Yulara where we meet any passengers joining us from Ayers Rock Airport (SO5Y). It’s then onto our permanent campsite for lunch. The afternoon is spent exploring Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), before travelling to Uluru (Ayers Rock) to take in a spectacular sunset. Later we return to camp for a traditional Aussie meal. After dinner, relax around the camp, under starry desert skies.
Camp: Ayers Rock Resort Permanent Campsite

Day 2: Yulara to Kings Creek (B, L, D)
It’s an early rise for an exciting morning with breathtaking views of sunrise at Uluru (Ayers Rock), a World Heritage listed area. Join your knowledgeable guide for a base tour of Uluru, exploring ancient caves where Aboriginal paintings can be seen. A fascinating time learning about the oldest culture in the world. For those that really must tackle the 1.6km climb, you will also have the chance*. This afternoon, travel through red sand dune & desert oak country to Kings Creek Cattle Station where optional activities are abundant. Tonight, try a traditional 'camp oven' dinner, cooked in the coals of the fire.
Camp: Kings Creek Permanent Campsite

Day 3: Kings Creek to Glen Helen (B, L, D)
This morning we visit breathtaking Kings Canyon. There's no rush as we hike around the canyon rim viewing sites like the Lost City and the Garden of Eden. After a picnic lunch, we head off on the famous Mereenie Loop Road towards the MacDonnell Ranges. A great scenic campsite tonight - close to a beautiful freshwater swimming hole, at picturesque Glen Helen Gorge.
Camp: Glen Helen Permanent Campsite

Day 4: Glen Helen to Wallace Rockhole (B, L, D)
An exciting day spent exploring many of the gorges & waterholes in this area. See Ormiston Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge, Ellery Creek, Standley Chasm and more! There are great walks to explore and in summer you can take a swim to cool off. Late afternoon, we end up at Wallace Rockhole Aboriginal Community, our overnight camp. Before dinner, visit the rockhole to view Aboriginal rock art and to learn about Aboriginal culture (seasonal).
Camp: Wallace Rockhole Permanent Campsite

Day 5: Wallace Rockhole to Alice Springs (B, L)
Real 4WD touring today as we drive through Finke Gorge National Park into Palm Valley. Dry riverbeds and uneven tracks make the journey an adventure in itself. The effort is worth it when you see the park's rough red gorges and view ancient stands of palm trees and cycads. We'll have a picnic and do some hiking here before returning to Alice Springs later in the day, arriving approx. 6.30pm

A MESSAGE FROM THE ANANGU PEOPLE
Note: Anangu, Uluru's traditional owners, would prefer that visitors choose not to climb Uluru. Furthermore, the climb may be closed without notice due to weather or cultural reasons.
