What You Can Expect

Amsterdam Super Saver: Zaanse Schans Windmills, Volendam and Marken Half-Day Tour plus Keukenhof Gardens Tour

Tulips at Keukenhof Gardens

The tour departs from Amsterdam’s Damrak, just a three-minute walk from Central Station. Here you’ll board a comfortable coach for the drive out into the countryside, where a landscape of windmills and wooden houses lines the route out to Zaanse Schans.

Upon arriving in the village of Zaanse Schans, your local guide will discuss the history of the 17th and 18th century buildings, and you’ll tour the town on foot for photos of the famous, colorful windmills. After strolling through town, sit and talk with a Dutch shoemaker about the process of making clogs, and learn the traditional woodworking techniques that go into every pair.

Next up is a 20-minute cruise to Volendam and Marken—two traditional fishing villages where traditional wooden houses sit perched on stilts. Here you’ll find women in colorful Dutch dresses and a chance to purchase lunch, before continuing on to a cheese factory for demonstrations and tastings.

The tour eventually returns back to Amsterdam for a 30-minute break, before continuing on to Keukenhof Gardens at 2:30pm.

Keukenhof Gardens and Tulips Field Tour (5 hours)

Climbing back aboard the comfortable coach, you’ll once again leave the fast pace of the city center behind. Watch as buildings slowly give way to fields of flowering tulips—most of which are at their peak in the later months of spring.

Upon reaching the site of Keukenhof Gardens, spend three hours scouring the massive garden that stretches for 80 acres, where you’ll find over seven million flowers from tulips to daffodils and hyacinths. The footpaths that weave through the floral gardens are lined by artistic sculptures, and make for a picturesque, relaxing stroll through the fields before the coach ride back to Amsterdam.

I really enjoyed it a lot! It was very well organized. I'm would have like a little longer time, perhaps 1 hour more, at the windmills. It was fascinating and beautiful!

We loved everything about this tour and highly recommend it. There was plenty of time in each location and the bus was clean and comfortable. Our tour guide was fabulous. I think his name was Eduardo. I recommend getting your tickets a day early and arrive early for your tour. They are very prompt and you don't want to be the last one on the bus and have to search for a seat.

This was fabulous. We were there the week they were closing but tulips and other flowers were still gorgeous. Did not realize it was an all day adventure. Left at 9 and home at 7but it was well worth it.Road a boat across the North Sea to a village. Went to cheese factory, and wooden shoe factory. It was a very good day and weather was perfect.

We loved the Keukenhof gardens tour as the tulips and other flowers were magnificent. We were able to spend quality time walking the gardens and our guide was knowledgeable about the history of the gardens and the maintenance of the location. This was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam.

The windmills were interesting and the information given by the owner of the one we visited was terrific. A very positive experience as we also enjoyed walking through the village. The clog factory in Marken was interesting but very short time was given to experience the process of making the clogs. Volendam and the cheese factory were a delightful experience, but we were misled about having dinner in one particular restaurant instead of being able to walk around more.

Our guide was fantastic and did allow for questions and comments.
