What You Can Expect

Skip the Line: Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum Tour Including Amsterdam Canals Lunch Cruise

Learn about the Dutch Masters on two guided museum walking tours

Your full-day tour starts in Amsterdam’s Museum District in the morning. Your guide will first take you to the Van Gogh Museum. Bypass the entrance queue with your skip-the-line ticket and head directly inside to see the museum’s magnificent artwork.

The Van Gogh Museum is home to the world's largest collection of paintings by Van Gogh, with more than 200 paintings as well as many letters and drawings. You can also see the work of those who inspired Van Gogh throughout various displays of art by other 19th-century painters. Your art historian guide will teach you about select paintings and about Van Gogh’s life, plus answer any questions you have.

After the tour, you have free time to browse the museum shop and can enjoy a cup of coffee at the museum café.

Next it's time to admire Amsterdam's outdoor beauty with a 1.5-hour boat tour along the city's picturesque canals. Relax as you cruise along the elaborate ring of UNESCO World Heritage-listed canals, passing charming bridges, canal houses, classic Dutch gables, churches, towers and other wonderful waterfront highlights. On board, you’ll be served a light lunch to enjoy with your fellow travelers.

Following the canal cruise, your guide will take you to the Rijksmuseum, a Dutch national museum dedicated to the arts and history of the Netherlands. Enjoy skip-the-line entry and head straight inside for a small-group tour.

This recently renovated museum has a magnificent collection of artwork, crafts and historical pieces dating back from the year 1200 to today. Admire and learn about masterpieces such as Vermeer’s Milkmaid and Rembrandt’s Night Watch. The entire collection of the Rijksmuseum is an incredible one million items, with 8,000 on display in 80 galleries.

After your Rijksmuseum tour, your guide will take you to Coster Diamonds -- one of the oldest still-operating diamond polishing factories -- where you will receive an entrance ticket to the Diamond Museum. The guided portion of your tour ends here, and you're free to continue exploring independently.

I really enjoyed this tour. Steven was an excellent guide, who explained with great detail, but also a sense of funhow the painters were making observations of their subjects/ communities, etc.. Be sure you wear comfortable shoes! I was looking up VVG on line and found a sight listing locations for his paintings all over the world. This review could actually be higher than a 5, if that was possible!

Brilliant , the guide Steve made such a difference explaining artists and styles all with great knowledge and sense of humour.

Everything worked as planned, and the tour guides were excellent.

With a limited amount of time available in Amsterdam, an excellent way to get an overview of the city and nation.

This was a great tour and was exactly what we expected. Steve, our guide, has a real passion for art and that was evident in the amount of information that he provided in both museums. The amount of time we spent in both museums was perfect and the box lunch we had on the canal boat was very nice as we cruised and learned about the city of Amsterdam. We only had one day in Amsterdam and this was a great way to spend it!

Excellent guide. Knew so much about Van Gough. Saw 1700 century galleries at the Rhijs and again she was great. The canal lunch was surprisingly good considering it was a boxed lunch. Again her commentary was excellent. Thank goodness for front of the line tickets.

The tour was excellent, our guide highly trained in arts explained us Van Gogh's paintings and development as an artist, took us the the most renowned paintings in the Rijksmuseum and was an enjoyable companion during the canal cruise. Without his help we would have seen less and understand even lesser from Dutch art. Had we not taken this trip, we would have spent hours waiting in the queues in front of the museums. The canal trip was pleasant, the city center looks so much different from a boat.

Very good. Well planned, interesting. Our guide, Tineke, was very knowledgeable and did a great job.

This was a great tour for the money. Having the guide who was very knowledgeable, as well as being able to skip the lines, was great. The Van Gogh was good, but the Rijksmuseum was wonderful. The tour doesn't give you more than a snap shot of the Rijksmuseum, but that is understandable considering the amount of art there is. The canal cruise was nice and the lunch was good too. Nice sandwiches. No cold drink which would have been welcomed on the warm day. I would do this again, but next time I'd only the tour of the Rijksmuseum.
