Eight miles (13 kilometers) south lies Dana Point, another coastal town with one of the few harbors in Orange County. Dana Point has a rich surfing culture and history – many of the companies that first produced surfing equipment and many surfing publications call Dana Point home.
You’ll also visit Mission San Juan Capistrano for a snapshot of some California history. Founded on All Saints Day, November 1, 1776, the mission was home to the first wine produced in Alta California (the name of the Mexican territory consisting of today’s western states). Tour the exhibits in both the museum and throughout the grounds of gardens, fountains and adobe-preserved architecture (museum admission not included – it’s $9-per-person and payable at time of tour check-in).
