What You Can Expect

Arrive in Anchorage and take a coach tour to the coastal community of Seward the following day. See Alaskan wildlife up close at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and the Alaska Sealife Center.

The next day, enjoy free time to explore on your own or do fun activities like dog sledding, snowmobiling, flightseeing, skiing and snowshoeing (additional costs).

On your fourth day, take a guided tour through Anchorage’s historic downtown district and see Lake Hood and Lake Spenard. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of wildlife exhibits at the Alaska Zoo and enjoy an exclusive dinner at the Mushers’ Banquet, where you’ll dine with racers from all over the world.

Follow it up the next day with a meet-and-greet with four-time Iditarod Champion Martin Buser at his Happy Trails Kennel! Hear his personal stories about the race and then visit the Iditarod Headquarters.

The following two days, snag a great spot for the commencement festivities and then the race! Cheer on mushers as you watch them parade through town and race to the finish. End your trip with a farewell dinner and depart Anchorage on your seventh day.

Itinerary

Day 1, February 25: Anchorage
Arrive in Anchorage and make your way to your hotel to gear up for your Alaskan adventure.

Overnight: 4-star Hilton Anchorage or equivalent in Anchorage

Day 2, February 26: Anchorage – Seward – Girdwood (B, L)
Have breakfast and then climb aboard your coach for a journey to the coastal community of Seward. Travel south along the spectacular Turnagain Arm and visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to see Alaskan wildlife up close. Visit the Alaska Sealife Center for an in-depth look above and below the waters.

Head to Girdwood in the Anchorage area for an overnight stay.

Day 3, February 27: Girdwood (B)
Today is yours to spend at your leisure. Choose from several optional tours to explore the area and enjoy activities such as dog sledding, snowmobiling, flightseeing, skiing and snowshoeing (additional cost). Or, simply take advantage of the hotel's amenities, like the relaxing spa facility. You can also enjoy an included tram ride to catch spectacular views of the valley.

Day 4, February 28: Girdwood – Anchorage (B, D)
After breakfast, depart Girdwood and head north to Anchorage. Enjoy a guided tour through the historic downtown district, see Lake Hood and Lake Spenard and visit the Alaska Zoo for a behind-the-scenes tour of the various wildlife exhibits.

Next, have free time to explore Anchorage on own. At night, enjoy Iditarod festivities and an exclusive dinner at the Mushers’ Banquet!

Day 5, March 1: Anchorage – Wasilla – Anchorage (B)
Start your day with breakfast and then travel north to meet four-time Iditarod Champion Martin Buser at his Happy Trails Kennel! Hear personal stories about his experiences racing and then return to Anchorage to visit the Iditarod Headquarters and see a replica of the Iditarod Trail

Overnight: 4-star Hilton Anchorage or equivalent in Anchorage

Day 6, March 2: Anchorage (B, D)
In the morning after breakfast, head to 4th Avenue to get a great spot to watch the Iditarod commencement festivities. Cheer on mushers from all over the world and watch them parade through town.

In the afternoon, browse cultural exhibits at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

At the end of the day, reminisce on your Alaska winter adventure at a farewell dinner.

Day 7, March 3: Anchorage – Willow – Anchorage
On your last day, head north to Willow for the official start of the race. On the way, stop at a grocery store in Wasilla to pick up lunch items and additional snacks.

Arrive in Willow and admire superb views of Mt McKinley as you walk to the start line. You’ll spend all day cheering on your favorite teams and watch the sleds race by. The nearby Willow Community Center will provide hot drinks and food for your enjoyment.

After the race, you'll head back to Anchorage for your departure flight
