Start your day with a floatplane flight from one of the most bustling seaplane airports in the country -- Lake Hood in Anchorage. After a comfortable, scenic 50-minute ride over the Cook Inlet and Kenai Peninsula, land on Big River Lake at the Redoubt Bay Lodge. After a 30-minute orientation, set out on the lake aboard a pontoon boat, your bear-viewing vessel.
The Redoubt Bay Lodge is located in a 171,000-acre (69,201-hectare) habitat full of wildlife, making it a prime bear-spotting location. Take a 3- or 6-hour cruise along the lake and soak in superb views of the scenic, tranquil landscape. Your local guide will help point out bears on shore in their natural habitat. Spot bears feeding on coho and sockeye salmon, wading in the shallow waters, or frolicking in the meadow – a truly unique sight!
After, head back to Redoubt Bay Lodge for a fully prepared lunch. If you opt for the half-day adventure that departs at 8am, eat lunch and then enjoy the 50-minute seaplane ride back to Anchorage. Those on the half-day trip in the afternoon will eat lunch when they land and then embark on the bear viewing adventure. If you choose the full-day experience, set out on another adventure after lunch in search of more brown bears! Then, relax on the return seaplane ride and arrive back at Lake Hood at around 7pm. Hotel pickup and drop-off is included for both the half-day and full-day tour.
