Itinerary

Day 1: Punta Arenas (D)
Your Antarctic adventure begins in Punta Arenas, the southernmost town in Chile. In the early afternoon, meet your tour representative and group at your hotel for a briefing in preparation for the exciting days ahead, followed by a welcome meal.

If you arrive early in Punta Arenas, stroll around town at your leisure or head to La Cruz Hill for panoramic views. You’ll find plenty of museums, restaurants and shops to keep you busy in the most populated city in Patagonia!

Day 2: Punta Arenas – King George Island (B, L, D)
Transfer to the airport for a charter flight to Antarctica, crossing the unpredictable Drake Passage by air in just a few hours rather than spending two turbulent days at sea. Enjoy views of the Southern Ocean as well as the stunning Antarctic landscapes as you descend over King George Island (Isla Rey Jorge), the largest of the volcanic South Shetland Islands.

Upon landing, you’ll have time to explore the island – a glaciated landmass lying approximately 75 miles (120 km) off the coast of Antarctica – looking for a variety of penguins and seals as you venture over the icy terrain with your guides. Then, transfer by Zodiac to the ship, your comfortable residence for the next five nights.

Overnight: cabin accommodation aboard the cruise ship

Day 3-6: Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands (B, L, D)
As your cruise ship approaches Antarctica, indulge in your first awe-inspiring views from the deck. You’ll have great photo opportunities of fantastical icebergs floating in the cobalt waters of the Southern Ocean, as well as the enormous landmass blanketed in sheets of white. Your captain and expedition team will be sure to point out any minke and humpback whales or seabird sightings.

During these four days, learn from onboard experts who provide in-depth lectures on the history, geology and animals of Antarctica, home to one of the world’s largest concentrations of wildlife. Depending on changing weather conditions, your expedition team will offer a variety of options – from speeding away on a Zodiac past majestic icebergs to hiking up a rocky hill for an unbeatable view of Port Lockroy.

Be in awe as you as you venture across the continent’s seemingly inhospitable landscape or listen to the deafening boom of a calving glacier near Danco Island. You might brave the waters with an icy ‘polar plunge’ in Paradise Bay or simply sit on a secluded, pebble-strewn beach while watching penguin chicks. Your team will point out chinstrap, Adélie and gentoo penguins, as well as fur, crabeater and Weddell seals.

Overnight: cabin accommodation aboard the cruise ship

Day 7: King George Island – Punta Arenas (B, L, D)
Bid farewell to the expedition team as you disembark from the ship at King George Island. Hop aboard your plane for another three-hour flight across the formidable Drake Passage. From the airport in Punta Arenas, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for a final group dinner, sharing photos and reminiscing about your once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Overnight: hotel accommodation in Punta Arenas

Day 8: Punta Arenas (B)
After breakfast, say good-bye to your shipmates, as there are no activities planned for your final day in Punta Arenas. If you prefer to depart from your accommodation after checkout time, you can store your luggage at the hotel. If you wish to travel further north and explore the amazing national parks and landscapes of southern Chile, you might opt to stay another night!
