It's a long drive to get to the elephant sanctuary. The bonus is that it gives you the opportunity to see a small part of Malaysia outside the hustle & bustle of KL. Our knowledgeable although quite fussy guide ordered an enjoyable & tasty lunch, provided a lot of interesting information, & organised some extras at the sanctuary: We were allowed to ride the elephant out of the river. The only lowlight is definitely the Aboriginal village. What is the point? This is a slum. The locals don't interact; they are lying around doing nothing. The children only come out for bribe lollies, & the guide seems to revel in showing the filth by expecting us to take photos of the the litter everywhere, & the squalor within the homes. This is not an opportunity to see people lifting themselves above their circumstances or trying to help; it is simply poverty. Enjoy the countryside, the cowboy town, the fruit & especially the elephants, but give the village a miss.

Very knowledgeable driver picked us up from our hotel on time and gave us loads of info and stats about KL along the route to Gandah, which took about 1hr 30 from central KL. He also took us to Deerland beforehand to see the deer and various other animals including a sunny bear. Then it was onto the elephant sanctuary itself which was very well organised and time spent with the elephants was a couple of hours. There were over 50 people at the sanctuary on the day we visited which was quite crowded but we still managed to ride on an elephant, bathed with them and fed them. Overall a very worthwhile day out and highly recommended.

This must be number one must do whilst in kl. Fantastic tour guide from the minute he picked us up in the Mercedes. Fantastic to have your own guide, he fixed it for us to ride elephants in and out of the water, made us feel very very special, fantastic, absolutely brilliant.

Our tour was amazing! Our guide gave us some special treatment by asking one of the trainers to let us swim with the elephants last - that way we got to have an extra long ride on them! He filmed our day with our camera for us too! We couldn't be more happy!!

One of the best experiences on the trip. The elephants are fantastic, lunch would of preferred just a sandwich. My husband and son ate it but I gave it a miss. The guide also took us to the Deerpark on the way and we got to feed and cuddle a sun bear, fantastic. Only problem is that they did not have our booking. I had to fax the confirmation to them on arrival in Kuala Lumpur.

You would have to pay tons to have half of the experience you can have here, compared to doing something like this in the states. We loved it. It was the highlight of our KL visit.

If you have one day in Kuala Lumpur this is the tour to do! We whizzed off through the countryside in a Mercedes with our friendly, informed guide who showed us various points of interest along the way, some on the itinerary, some not. One highlight not on the official tour was Deerland. Here we got to feed deer as well as ostriches and sun bears. It was a definite unexpected highlight to our holiday. At the elephant sanctuary, our guide ensured everything was looked after and arranged for me to be the first to ride the elephant into the water. What a treat! To top this off he, then arranged for me to ride the elephant out of the water back to the dismounting area all by myself. What a thrill! We can't thank our guide enough for making this day so special!

Our guide was great. Lunch was a bit dodgy. The elephants were awesome.

The personal driver was very good; he was interesting and knowledgeable about the country and the facility and knew exactly how long it would take to travel there. The elephant sanctuary definitely needs to keep investing in facilities. The movie room needs to be improved for size and quality, and the projector and screen need to provide a better picture. The availability of cold drinks for sale would have been very popular, as would have been souvenir elephant figurines. An official photographer should be on hand to take pictures of people travelling alone or in couples.
