Duration: 4 days / 3 nights (approx.)
Location: Hanoi, Vietnam
Product code: 2514HAN_SAPEXT
Sapa is a colorful ethnic minority region, near the chinese border. There are several ethnic minorities in this area still wearing traditional dress, making this an inspring and unforgettable experience.
Its high elevation of 1,600 meters creates it's cool climate. This inspired the French to build villas there as a summer retreat. Today, Sapa still attracts visitors for it's stunning scenery, comfortable climate, colorful markets, and a variety of ethnic hill tribes living in nearby villages.
By choosing this tour you are supporting a local tour operator who is constantly seeking new ways to bring travelers closer to local cultures. This style of travel offers an alternative to mass market tourism which takes into account local cultural values and economic growth. All tours are low impact on natural resources; are respectful and observant of local customs and traditions, and are supportive of local economies. Conde Naste agrees. In 2007 they awarded the operator of this tour as the Winner of their Best Operator category in the Conde Nast World Saver Awards.

Faces of Sapa, Vietnam
Our trip starts with an overnight train journey from Vietnam's capital city to the border town of Lao Cai. The accommodation will be in soft sleeper berths on express train. At 6:00am the next morning you will arrive in Lao Cai, near the chinese border where we will be met by our vehicle for the 40 minute drive to Sapa. The drive is spectacular as we climb the terraced, rice paddy mountians. Upon arrival in Sapa we will check into our hotel and have breakfast. In the afternoon we have a light four hour walk to the surrounding hill tribe villages of Cat Cat, Ta Van and Cau May. Cat Cat is home to the H'mong people who originated from China, where they emigrated from about 300 years ago.
Day 3: Lao Cai
The next day we take a day trip to local villages by russian jeep. Depending on the day of the week, you may visit the colourful regional markets.
On the 4th day, you will have free time to wander around Sapa and explore the town before our vehicle takes us to the train station for the overnight train back to Hanoi and to your hotel.
