The chef made the food come to life, I learn a lot and even better I left the class very full!
Just had the best time at a cooking class in Athens and if you ever venture here you must sign up. Maria, the teacher owns this cool place behind a church nearly 100 years old called Taverna Klimataria and Maria has such warmth, passion and love of Greek food and then you cook, eat, and eat and drink and stay from 6 PM to 1 AM dancing and drinking with the locals. We started our class early, Locals usually don't start Dinner until 10 PM and will stay till past 3AM, we left early and I still felt like Dionysus and completely exhausted.
I'm sorry I can only give five stars for this experience. I would like to give ten. It was so amazing. A ten course meal was so much more than what we expected. Maria was amazing. This is by far the best experience I've had in all my travels around the world, and I've been to a lot of places. Please please please treat yourself with this experience even if you aren't a cook, the food and wine is worth every penny and more. The only thing I would say is, make sure you take a cab afterwards, the neighborhood is a bit questionable at best.
Wonderful fun, great atmosphere, only change was I would have had some food and drink ready at the beginning since folks were already hungry.
Maria was an awesome teacher! I learned tons new recipes that are simple but tasty! I love the hands on experience. Recommend to all!
We thoroughly enjoyed this cooking class. Maria was very personable and informative. We would highly recommend the class.
We loved our Greek Cooking Class at the Klimataria Tavern in Athens, and recommend it to everybody! Maria, the owner, is vibrant and had soooo much history and secrets to share. It ended up to be a 5 hour experience with lots of good food and drinks and a really good time with 2 other families. Everybody had an opportunity to participate - we learned to prepare several different recipes. I've allready prepared the lamb/potato dish and eggplant salad (my favourites) for my family at home, and they loved it!
This was a fun cooking class. I learned a lot about the Greek style of food preparation from the delightful host of the event, Maria. She distributed recipes of the items we prepared afterwards so that we can make the dishes at home. She is very knowledgeable about the interactions of the ingredients and the effect of the cooking process on the recipes and articulates all of that in a fun and engaging manner. The best part - though you are strangers when you walk in, she makes all those present feel as part of a big Greek family relaxing and making food together.
What a fun and lively evening! Maria is a gem, sharing her philosophy on everything from food to family, from shopping to chopping. The evening ran a bit longer than scheduled, but no one seemed to mind, and our dinner was delicious, if I do say so myself!
We absolutely loved this experience with Maria. The lesson was great, we learned so much about Greek food, its' origins, customs, and preparation. Maria works hard to make sure everyone is comfortable and has a good time. I will be making several of the dishes she taught us and hope to come back to learn more. Thank you Maria...Mary and Brill from Texas
A wonderful evening with Maria and a fun group from around the globe. Maria greated each of us; asked that we tell her about our cooking at home throughout the evening. She involved everyone in the preparation of dishes and in fact added extra dishes to her plan because everyone was so enthusiastic. She was enjoying it all as much as we were. We sat down to dinner with more food than we could possibly eat even if we hadn't been nibbling and sipping during preparations. Nothing difficult in preparations, focus on Greek taste and presentation. YUM!!
Loved the cooking class. Maria was excellent and very informative. I would recommend it to anyone.
Our hostess and cooking instructor Maria was awesome!! She welcomed us with some Raki and gave us all a brief history on Greek cooking. It was fun to particpate in making the dishes that we would eat. Everything was delicious. Maria made you feel like going home and make the food for family and friends. I would highly recommend this cooking class.
I got lucky and had a very fun group for my cooking class. The awesome Maria taught us the basics of Greek cuisine. Everything was so delicious! She cooks just like mama. And there are some hands on duties which are simple enough for a novice like me. My favorite evening in Greece.
