The location and teacher were excellent, the restaurant was top notch. We went through over our allotted time but never felt rushed and stayed far too long afterwards drinking wine in the quaint restaurant.
This cooking class was so much fun!! Ilia taught the class some DELICIOUS recipes and we all ate more than our fill!! The company was great and we learned a lot about Greek life in the olden days and now. If you come to Athens and enjoy good food and company sign up for this trip :
I had a wonderful time learning new things about cooking and about the country of Greece. I would recommend this class for anyone traveling.
maria was a warm and wonderful hostess teaching us about greek food and culture. i felt bad that we barely made a dent in all of the wonderful food she helped us prepare, but there was just so much food! (and we had done a walk food tour in the afternoon) definitely an amazing experience, but bring your appetite!
Had a great time and learned some things about Greek cooking, learned some great recipes and met some new friends. If you live to cook, then this is for you!
This was so much fun and the restaurant's atmosphere was great!! Our hostess, Maria, was a blast! We made six appetizers and a main course, and of course we indulge in several Greek wines. Everything was cooked with fresh ingredients. And boy, we ate so much food! Definitely recommend this tour for a perfect gastronomical experience with Greek food. Before we left we were given recipes for all the dishes we made.
My friend and I had a great time learning how to cook some Greek "comfort food" that Greeks grew up eating. The location was inside a charming museum style restaurant where as you get your lesson, you can enjoy the beautiful paintings and wall frescos. The recipes are simple yet delicious and our entire group had a good time laughing and learning and sampling the food as we go along this journey in gastronomic delight. The wine was aromatic without being too sweet or too dry. A classical and intimate setting for a family style gathering of strangers that became friends through this shared experience.
Our tour got a late start as the guide meeting us waited an additional 30 minutes as he miscounted participants. Mary tried to make up for time but it was a bit rushed. She is an excellent cook and instructor but had the challenges of trying to teach with music and other diners talking-difficult to hear at times.. Although the restaurant is charming, is was very hot, noisy, and the smoking distracted from the experience. I almost left the class due to the heat and one person had left prior to me. I do look forward to trying the delicious recipes at home.
had a wonderful experience, our instructor was amazing she gave us more than we had anticipated with recipes, a little history of Greek cooking and wonderful food We will certainly tell anyone that might consider this cooking class to participate in the experience.
The cooking class was the absolute highlight of my stay in Athens! The restaurant we cooked in was so cute and fun, it perfectly emobodied what I would have imagined as a Greek restaurant. We learned step by step how prepare the food and got all the recipes at the end to take home! It surpassed my expectations. I would recommend this class to anyone, it was amazing!
This class was nothing short of amazing and Mary, our host, was an absolute delight. The location, in a small bustling taverna, with a small group so that everyone could participate was fantastic. I did the class with my step-daughter and we learnt an amazing amount of information, got to practice making some of our favourites dishes and then - best of all - taste them! A word of warning, do not eat anything before you go - the amount of food you make and then sit down to share is phenomenal! A true highlight of our trip.
This class is highly recommended and influenced my eating habits for the duration of my time in Greece. Everything was well laid out and prepared. You participated as much as you were comfortable with. I felt like I was having a family dinner by the end. Maria is so cute and funny. The tour was easy to find as you met the guide straight off the metro.
This was without doubt the best cooking class ever. Gina met us and walked us to the tavern where the amazing Maria gave us ideas hints and hands on instructions to cooking many dishes, pastries, dips, salads etc. Maria was positive, encouraging and we all had a ball. Then we had to eat it all. So much food, plenty of wine and great entertainment as well as helpful cooking tips. Way too much food - ate leftovers for next few days. Thanks Maria
Such a fantastic experience! Definitely a must-do for food lovers in Athens. We loved the cozy, traditional feel of the taverna, the friendly staff and of course the amazing food that we had the chance to cook and taste.
The cooking class was great. Maria, the cook, was quite good and taught both to the neophyte and to the experienced cook. We prepared local food which is easy to prepare at home. Maria answered all our questions about preparing meals even those not related to the dinner at hand. The evening began at 5:30 and ended way after 10:00. Wonderful evening.
We had a great time, ate tooooo much wonderful food, learned lots about Greek cooking and met some fun people. A great way to spend an evening in Athens
The Greek Cooking Class with Maria was one of the highlights of our trip to Athens. My wife and I had the best time and Maria was a wonderful host and excellent instructor. The tavern is a lovely environment and all were there to serve and make sure you have a great time...and we did. As a group, we made mini eggplant pies, feta cheese salad, authentic Greek tzatziki, and rolled our own dolmadakia using grape leaves. Eggplant salad was next and then we prepared an excellent Greek salad to finally top it off with a delicious lamb dish. Our group was very engaged in helping prepare all the ingredients, mixing, chopping, kneading, and then enjoying the fruits of our labor at a large table with delicious beverages. Through each step in making the dishes, Maria not explains the process but also some of the history of the dish and why it is so special to the Greek community. Don't worry about remembering the details since she gives each guest a pamphlet that outlines the ingredients and cooking instructions. It was an exceptional evening with Maria and her team.
Lovely taverna with a beautiful host to match! Go hungry as there's plenty of food to be eaten!
This experience is awesome and well worth it. When we first got there I thought we'd made a big mistake, considering it was a dozen middle aged women, my wife, and me - the only guy. But I quickly found myself really enjoying Maria (the host) and all the delicious food we sampled, cooked and ate together. It's a fresh, authentic Greek meal and you learn a lot about the culture too. You also get to drink as much wine as you can consume so let's just say we left feeling great and very full. Lots of fun.
The chef made the food come to life, I learn a lot and even better I left the class very full!
Just had the best time at a cooking class in Athens and if you ever venture here you must sign up. Maria, the teacher owns this cool place behind a church nearly 100 years old called Taverna Klimataria and Maria has such warmth, passion and love of Greek food and then you cook, eat, and eat and drink and stay from 6 PM to 1 AM dancing and drinking with the locals. We started our class early, Locals usually don't start Dinner until 10 PM and will stay till past 3AM, we left early and I still felt like Dionysus and completely exhausted.
I'm sorry I can only give five stars for this experience. I would like to give ten. It was so amazing. A ten course meal was so much more than what we expected. Maria was amazing. This is by far the best experience I've had in all my travels around the world, and I've been to a lot of places. Please please please treat yourself with this experience even if you aren't a cook, the food and wine is worth every penny and more. The only thing I would say is, make sure you take a cab afterwards, the neighborhood is a bit questionable at best.
