Located less than an hour's drive from the Auckland port, the Matakana Coast is a premier destination for North Island food, wine, arts and crafts. After port pickup, start your small-group tour in Warkworth with a visit to the family-operated Honey Centre.
Observe working bees on display and taste honey products such as manuka and clover honey, fruit wine and mead — aka honey wine. Then head to a local winery to sample award-winning vintages.
A drive to Matakana takes you to the Morris & James pottery studio where you’re introduced to an array of handcrafted ceramics by local craftspeople on exhibit in the Collection Showroom.
Then sit down for lunch at Mahurangi River Winery & Restaurant, which provides a contemporary ambiance amid landscaped vines. Dine on farm-fresh produce before touring the winery, and enter the barrel room for a tasting of locally produced varietals.
In the afternoon, it’s on to Brick Bay Farm, where you can set out on the Sculpture Trail, an outdoor gallery set among native trees and towering palms. Step inside the Glass House for a wine tasting from the notable Brick Bay Vineyard.
Complete your shore excursion with a delectable sampling of handmade chocolates at Chocolate Brown, before you’re returned to the Auckland port.
Please note: Winery tours and lunch venue are subject to change due to seasonality.
