Waiheke Island Exploration and Zipline Day Trip from Auckland

Waiheke Island Exploration and Zipline Day Trip from Auckland

At your selected departure time, board the ferry from Auckland to Waiheke Island, just 11 miles (18 km) across the Hauraki Gulf (own expense). Arriving at the Waiheke Island Ferry Terminal, you’ll be transported by minivan to the visitor center at Trig Hill, which boasts panoramic views from one of the island’s highest vistas.

Sightsee Waiheke with a professional guide during the 25-minute minivan ride en route to the zipline circuit to check in and gear up. After an instructional briefing, make your way to the first platform where a guide safely attaches your harness to the cable. Feel the thrill as you lift off for the first of three 655-foot (200-meter) zipline flights.

To ease you into the zipline experience gently, your first zipline flight takes you above a picturesque vineyard, then across a valley and native New Zealand forest. The gradient increases gradually until you’re back on firm ground for an easy 1-mile (1.6-km) interpretive bush walk back to the visitor center on your own. Afterward, you’re transferred to the ferry terminal for the 40-minute return ride to Auckland.

It was raining on the day we went, not a hard rain but an annoying drizzling rain, but we zip lined any way. It was fantastic! There are two lines running in tandem so you can race each other. We rented a gro pro and it was a good investment because then we could actually see the scenery we zoomed across. The last line is particularly fast....and steep...thrilling! After the zip line, we do a bush walk, up and down the mountain to get back to base. It was a bit challenging because of the mud, but under the canapy the forest was magical. Definitely wear good trekking shoes.

This tour was amazing! I loved the three zip lines. So much fun! And tour guides picked us up from the shops instead of the ferry station, which made it very convenient for us to see other parts of the island, too.

It was great! Wonderful communication to my questions. Small group. They were very concerned about our safety first and then our fun. The lines are fast - meaning it takes more time to get ready than the actually zipping but very much worth it. They tell you what goes down must go up - and so it is. We had a nice walk up.

The group at EcoZip tours were phenomenal!! We highly recommend doing this excursion as you get a full history of Wahike Island and the zip line experience. I also recommend staying for lunch on the island then taking a later ferry back to Auckland. Excellent excursion and will do it again when we come back to New Zealand.
