At Geikie Gorge you also have the option to take a longer 2 hour Darngku Heritage Cruise hosted by local Bunuba Aboriginal Cultural guides, who provide a fascinating insight into Aboriginal culture, Dreamtime stories, bush tucker, animal tracks, traditional plant use and cultural practices (additional expense, upgrade available while on tour). Day 2: Fitzroy Crossing to Broome (B, L)After breakfast this adventure takes you along the famous "Gibb River Road", once used as the main stock route for the region, stop at Tunnel Creek, an amazing 750 meter long flooded tube tunnel. Take an exciting walk through the tunnel wading through knee to thigh high water in some sections and hear the story of Jandamarra.

After a short drive, stop at Windjana Gorge, regarded as one of the classic features of world geology and a great freshwater crocodile spotting site. Here enjoy a picnic lunch before the journey back to Broome, via the historic town of Derby, home of Australia's largest tides. Stop for afternoon tea at one of the Kimberley's most famous landmarks the Prison Boab Tree, once used to hold convicts. Here you will also view Myalls Bore, a 120 meter long trough built in the early 1900's used to water up to 1,000 head of cattle at one time, before arriving back into Broome at approximately 7.00pm.

Note: Accessing Tunnel Creek walk involves 20 meters of clambering over boulders and 700 meters of wading through knee to thigh high water (shorts are ideal). Strap on sandals or old sandshoes must be worn through the water as the creek bed is rocky and footwear is required to avoid injury. To safely navigate the Tunnel passengers must be able to walk and balance themselves on uneven ground. Torches and footwear are provided.

    • Tour is operated in English unless otherwise stated
    • This tour operates with a minimum of two passengers
    • All vehicles include extra large, sheepskin-covered, reclining seats, large panoramic windows for sightseeing, air-conditioning, restrooms, chilled and hot water dispensers, television and videos. They are fitted with seatbelts, advanced braking and suspension systems for a smooth ride. Maximum 23 or 27 passengers.
    • The driver / guides are an elite group of highly trained, environmentally aware professionals. They will share their experience and stories of Western Australia with you to ensure your tour is fulfilling.

    What to Bring:
Due to the equipment required for the tour, vehicles have limited luggage space remaining. We therefore ask passengers to limit baggage to a strict 15 kilograms (maximum). Soft bags are preferred, suit cases and back packs are discouraged as they are bulky, take up a lot of room and are very difficult to maneuver into tight spots.

    • For the 2-hour Darngku Aboriginal Geikie Gorge cruise all passengers must wear closed in/covered walking shoes.
    • Swimmers (bathers) to enjoy swimming where freshwater bathing is possible.
    • Comfortable covered footwear for getting around day and night (joggers / sandshoes are suitable).
    • Sandals to walk and share bathroom facilities in the morning and at night.
    • Toiletries and any personal medication (each vehicle has a small onboard refrigerator which can be used if required, please advise us if you have a large space requirement).
    • Small slim pocket torch.
    • Jumper (pullover) and warm jacket as the Kimberley region has a desert like climate - hot in the day and chilly at night.
    • Shorts are recommended for day wear.
    • At least 1 pair of long pants for warmth at night and protection on walks from scratchy spinafex grass and vegetation on walks. Pants that zip off sections to become shorts are ideal.
    • Loose fitting cotton clothing is ideal, particularly shirts with a collar and sleeves that can be rolled up and down for protection from the sun as required.
    • The Kimberley has a fine red talcum powder like dust; we advise you don't bring white garments on tour, as they will probably stain permanently.
    • Plastic water bottle (750ml to 1 liter is ideal for walks). We recommend a transparent bottle (so you can monitor contents) fitted with a pop up drinking nozzle i.e. Sports bottles. Each vehicle is fitted with a bulk filtered water dispenser unit for passenger consumption.
    • Small day backpack (for you to carry your water bottle, towel and whatever else you wish to bring on the vehicle during the day). We recommend backpacks as they affect balance less and leave your hands free for support over uneven surfaces.
    • Insect repellent, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, camera and of course money for incidentals.
    • Elastic fly screen to fit over your hat - available from most camping stores.

    Special Diets:
While consideration will be given to special dietary requirements, as we are traveling in remote areas and through small country towns, there is no guarantee food for specific dietary needs will be available. Food for most lunches is purchased prior to departure and prepared on tour whilst most breakfasts and evening dinners are provided by the accommodation venue in restaurant style situation.

    Fitness and Health:
On some days this tour travels on dirt tracks which may be a little rough, consequently the tour is not recommended to those persons with back or neck trouble or pregnant women.
