Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Phillip Island Penguin Small Group Eco Tour from Melbourne. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
Do this! If you love seeing animals in their natural habitat instead of zoos, this is a must do on Phillip Island. One of life's greatest moments is to watch how the penguins communicate to each other on when to leave the sea and cross the sand to their burrows. Because we decided that we were going "all in" on on Aussie holiday, we upgraded to the first row seats and I would highly recommend but if you're looking to save a few bucks, there are great views from every seat so I think you'd still get an awesome show without splurging. One of the cool things about upgrading is that you get a guided tour which provides you with a lot of useful information which I personally enjoyed.
Chris our driver was great thoroughly enjoyed our day many thanks, our ranger was very informative and great at the Penguin Parade. from the ladies from Hunter Valley
Nicky, our Bus Driver/Tour Guide had amazing energy and made our day delightful. We had a full day that included a trip to a trout farm, wine tasting, and a side trip to the race track where we saw motorcycles racing and kangaroos. Of course, the highlght of the tour was watching the penguins come in from the ocean. However, Nicky gave us an opportuinty to see and photograph penguins while it was still light out and photgraphs were permitted. I would highly recommend this tour.
My wife and I signed up for this – our first tour in Australia – and it was wonderful. The itinerary is rich and varied, with several interesting stops, nicely paced and each enjoyable. The small group of 10 visitors was ideal, but most of all, the tour guide, Beth, was excellent. Not only was she informative, and wonderfully she was plucky, amusing and engaging. She managed to create a social group for the trip that added to all of our enjoyment, and she participated in each of the stops. It was a memorable experience.

Tour was well managed by our tour guide come driver Mr Chris Ann.He was very passionately explaining about the various plants/trees at Bush tucker farm and also about the little Penguins. Visit to the Bush Tucker farm and experiencing the native bush food for lunch was great. Visit to Koala conservation center was a great opportunity to take pictures of Koala. But taking good pictures of Koala can be a challenge! The main attraction was penguin parade. Watching the little Penguins, returning in groups back to their nests at dusk was a great experience. Any lover of animals/ nature will be thrilled with this great evening show by little cute Penguins. An upgrade to at-least to Penguin plus is needed to appreciate these little animals closely. Free WiFi in the mini bus was useful to upload pictures immediately.
Overall, it was a fantastic day trip despite the occasional showers and cold wind. My two girls and I loved the Koala Conservation Centre and the visit to Rhyll Trout and Bush a Tucker Farm. It was refreshing to see, touch, smell and taste the various plants grown here at the farm. It was a little disappointing that we saw no seals at Nobbes, but it was the fault of no one. The highlight would have to be the viewing of the penguins when they returned from the ocean. The upgrade to the viewing platform was definitely worth the money.
Driver cum guide Travis from Gowest was entertaining throughout the day. My family would remember this trip for a long time to come.
What a unique experience! The stops along the way are a nice diversion from the long ride (the chocolate is yummy!) and seeing the penguins come in at sunset is a "do not miss" event.
