Depart Adelaide and travel by chauffeur driven vehicle with an experienced wine guide to the Southeast region of South Australia. Journey through the serene pastoral landscape to the heart of premium red wine production in Coonawarra.

Visit Pathaway Estate, located 291km southeast of Adelaide, this picturesque classic country retreat is surrounded by little more than a few houses and the vineyards, which stretch from the hill across the valley. Pathaway is an area just recently recognized for the quality Chardonnay and the exceptional character of the varieties produced. Enjoy sampling their wines plus a selection of wines from the region. With over 25 wineries in the area, most are multi-award winning wine producers. The region's famous stretch of terra rosa soil lies on top of limestone and with its abundance of under ground water and cool climate, for much of the year results in outstanding wines.

Later travel into Naracoorte and explore the mysteries of the underground world at the Naracoorte Caves and Bool Lagoon recognized by the United Nations Wetlands of International Importance. Wool products are also abundant. Enjoy a delicious lunch alfresco picnic style at one of the many picturesque wineries (weather permitting), or at the outstanding Hermitage Restaurant.

After lunch an option may be to stroll down the Petticoat Lane in Penola to visit the little craft shops. Penola is the oldest town in the Southeast and is honored as the workplace of Mary McKillop.

Alternatively, you may choose to resume visiting some of the fine wine producers of the Connawarra region. Some of the distinguished wine producers you may visit, include Wynns Coonawarra Estate, which is the oldest and perhaps the most spectacular in the area and also the most technologically advanced. Also visit Balnaves of Coonawarra and meet some of the Belnaves family producing their premium wines. Another notable winery that may be visited is the small Italian family run, Zema Estate winery, famous for their full flavored wines and Mrs. Zemas preserves.

In the evening, visit the elegant Pathaway Estate Homestead in the heart of the wine country and dine in-house.

Day 2: Pathaway - Adelaide (B, L)
Today meet Brian Lynn a lecturer of Viticulture at the local college who also has his own vineyard and produces a wine call Majella Estate. Don't miss out on his brief tour the vineyard, an introduction to the area and the opportunity to sample some of the wines he has made.

Meet other local wine producers such as Penley Estate, Rymill Estate, Leconfield and Bowen Estate. Sample some of their fine wines before your return journey via the coast.

On the return journey, you may visit the newest classified wine region, Mount Benson and see vineyard planting's around Robe, the pretty fishing village. Travel past the wetlands of the Coorong, and enjoy a scrumptious seafood lunch before your return journey to Adelaide along the coast.
