Provençal Cooking Class and Market Tour in Avignon

The 15th-century mansion where your cooking class takes place

Join your guide, the professional chef Jean-Claude Altmayer, at Maison de Fogasses in central Avignon in the morning. He is an expert in Provençal cuisine and has worked in 5-star hotels.

Start by going over today's menu as you enjoy a cup of coffee made by the winner of France’s best coffee roaster awards in 2012, awarded by the French Coffee Committee. Then walk a few minutes to Avignon’s covered market, Les Halles, where your group will pick out the ingredients for your meal. You’ll fill your basket with a colorful and tasty mélange of Provence’s typical foods: olives, chickpeas, spices and more.

After the market, make your way to a private home, located in a historic building that dates back to the 15th century; the tastefully decorated house sets the tone for your Avignon cooking class.

Your chef demonstrates traditional cooking techniques as you prepare classic Provençal dishes such as tapenade, ratatouille and roasted veal with honey. See Sample Menu below for ideas of what you might be cooking up.The chef will decide on the exact menu on the day.

Sip an aperitif as you put the finishing touches to your dishes, and then sit down with your group to enjoy your freshly prepared meal. You’ll be given recipe sheets at the end to take home with you, so you can recreate this traditional Provençal meal for your family and friends!

What a great day, for the price you couldn't go wrong, the chef Jean Claude was terrific and very entertaining... Drank wine all day along with cocktails and ate and helped achieve a wonderful dinner... Highly highly recommend this trip... The market tour was fantastic as well.
