What You Can Expect

Provence Le Grand Tour

Visit the pretty village of Gordes on your tour in Provence

Your 10.5-hour grand tour of Provence begins with morning pickup from your Avignon hotel. Take a comfortable seat and enjoy scenic views of the Provençal countryside as you head north to your first stop, the town of Orange. With your expert guide, explore the ancient town founded by Romans in 35 BC. View the Triumphal Arch adorned with narrative friezes and the Théâtre antique d’Orange (Antique Theater of Orange), a magnificent Roman amphitheater described as the most impressive Roman sight in France.

Next, take a short drive to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, situated at the center of fertile wine country. Admire rolling hills carpeted in vineyards, learn about the local varietals, and stop at a charming vineyard to sample some fine wine. Take some time in Châteauneuf-du-Pape to have lunch (own expense) before heading to the awesome Pont du Gard. Considered an ancient work of art, this UNESCO-listed construction is the highest of all elevated Roman aqueducts. Admire the preserved three-tiered structure that spans the mighty Gardon River.

Continue south to the wild Alpilles Mountains and Les Baux de Provence – a fortified medieval village carved straight from the limestone-rich earth. Take some time to explore and snap photos from the lofty vantage point over the Luberon plains. The final leg of your tour heads into the Luberon region to visit the stunning hilltop villages of Gordes and Roussillon. Admire medieval architecture and the natural wonders that surround these distinctive towns. Then grab any last souvenirs before heading back to Avignon, where you will be returned to your hotel in the evening.

Overall an excellent tour. Marc was very knowledgeable about Provence and we learned a lot about the region. We were with a nice group which helped make the day very enjoyable. Marc arrived on time, the vehicle was comfortable we were not in back seat though, we got back on time and Marc's English was excellent.
Comments:
Felt a little rushed during day and would have liked more time in a couple of places.
There was one cliuent on a half day tour, the rest of us were full day. Therefore had to return to starting point which may have been the reason we were short on time. Suggest having tour with people who have same schedule.
For a!most 300 kind of expected lunch would have been provided or at least some beverages.
in spite of these comments would highly recommend tour.

Overall it was an enjoyable day. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see places outside Avignon.

There was a splendid tour, rather informative, and at the same time relaxing and very well organized. How was it possible to visit so many fantastic places within the single day so many impressions, emotions and memories. Thanks to the excellent guide Julien our multinational group was feeling nothing but comfort and relaxing in this trip. Julien is the true professional, ready to answer any question, with very friendly and attentive attitude to each person in his group. I am really thankful to Viator and to Julien for this Grand Day in Provence, - such tours can be definitely strongly recommended to everybody.

Great guide first of all. The tour covered a lot of places and would recommend if this is your first visit to the area and want a bit of overview of things for future visits. Will definitely book again from the tour company and the guide.

Very good tour with an excellent guide and we would highly recommend it.. The only suggestion we would like to make is that some provision be made for a lunch break.

The Guide cum driver Ms Solene was excellent.
When we left our wine purchased during the tour in the vehicle when the tour had ended.
She took the trouble to bring them to our hotel.
We appreciate it very much.
She is flexible and kind and hardworking too.

This was a highlight of our trip to France. Carole was an amazing guide! She is really an historian, not simply a guide - add knowledge to great driving skills. We would HIGHLY recommend this trip!
