What You Can Expect
It is then off to The Rose Garden Cultural Center by private transfer, where you will see local Thai villagers creating traditional village handicrafts. All sorts of skills are on display including; silk-weaving, pottery-making, umbrella-painting, Khon mask masking, mat weaving, doll making, fruit carving, garland-making, rice-pounding and even the delicate crafting of silver and laquerware.
There are also impressive displays of authentic Thai period costumes, a chance to see busy, typical Thai market, different styles of Thai Houses (from both the North to South regions of Thailand) and an intriguing display of Thai antiques from various parts of the country. The Thai village offers a potpourri of different Thai cultural activities that also include Muay Thai boxing, sword fighting, Thai dances, elephants at work and much, much more.
We were never rushed and treated extremely well. We were very informed and given personal attention and even cold packs for our necks to cool down. (The heat can get to you.) The car ride to the Rose Garden takes a little while but is worth it. We rode in nice, clean and comfortable air-conditioned sedans. The gardens are beautiful and lunch, elephant ride and show were wonderful, too. We really got our money's worth!
Enjoyed the floating markets and, whilst they are more commercial now than when my parents visited back in the 1970s, there were still some bargains to be purchased. The long tail boat ride up the canals was interesting. The Rose Garden Cultural Centre wasn't quite what we expected - very commecial. Enjoyed the show inside but the elephant show was somewhat disappointing. Would revisit the markets but wouldn't bother about returing the centre.
