Montserrat was so different than Barcelona that we were glad to have taken the time to explore. The skip the line ticket to La Sagrada Familia was an excellent idea and that audio/tour was a highlight.
Our guide was great! After a less than stellar experience with a tour on our last trip my sister and I felt we were done with guided tours, but Lydia restored our faith. She was an excellent guide, shared lots of information, had a great sense of humor, gave us some great advice on things to do, and let us have enough free time to be able to enjoy the beauty of Montserrat on our own. We rode up to the top where there was spectacular views and we enjoyed the afternoon prayer and the singing of the boys choir inside the church where the Black Virgin resides. Definitely a tour I would recommend to anyone with time to for a day trip while in Barcelona.
Beautiful place, beautiful views. Our Guide was great! Highly recommend this to everyone! Just amazing!!!
This was an excellent tour with an exceptional tour guide ( "Phillipo"). The "saw mountain" landscape was breathtaking and the 'Black Virgin' unlike anything we have ever seen before. The Basilica itself was so beautiful. Definitely recommend taking the funicular to the top of the mountain to enjoy the fresh air and walk around the mountain top with all of its incredible views. An unexpected highlight was sampling the local cheese, honey, and even cheesecake, set up by vendors outside the Basilica. If you like, they will "seal" their products so they can be taken with you on your trip home. It has been really special enjoying cheese we purchased at this incredible site in Portugal, around our family dinner table 5,000 miles away.
The trip was nicely done. Many people remarked at what a smooth job our driver did. Made me feel very secure going along the freeway and up the last windy part. Our tour guide was perfect in that she didn't talk too much and assisted us in getting what we needed to know and where to go but then let us wander. Although I'm spiritual as opposed to Catholic, seeing the Black Madonna was captivating for me. I skipped the cable car only due to my fear of heights and the many noisy school children I would have had to ride with. So I walked the grounds and took a lot of pictures instead. Beautiful! Getting to skip the line at Sagrada was well worth it and, again, our tour guide showed exactly where to go and took care of getting us tickets. Sagrada was jaw-dropping and amazing. The line just to get the ticket can be hours, then you get in line to enter... This was so convenient and I recommend you do this for your time saving. Great day trip! Enjoy!
Wonderful afternoon with our guide Nico. Fun drive there in an 8 passenger van with one other couple. Fantastic views from Montserrat. Art Museum at Montsarrat was well worth the extra admission fee. Overall a great value and nice afternoon.
The trip to Montserrat was one of the highlights of our visit to Barcelona. Being a small group, we had chance to get to know fellow tourists on the minibus. The mountain was extraordinary and unique, the monastery with the black Madonna a quite moving experience. The pastries made by the monks and the samples of cheeses from the market stalls added to the whole experience. Julia, our guide, was immensely enthusiastic and interesting. I wished we'd taken the whole day tour so as to have enough time to enjoy all the walks.
Small-Group Tour to Monserrat is highly recommended. We got there early in the morning before
the big groups started to come in. Enjoyed our trip and our tour guide.*****
Skip-the-Line ticket to La Sagrada is also recommended. The line was so long and with this ticket
you just get in with no hassle. *****
This was an outstanding day away from the city. The setting of the monastery complex is breathtaking. One piece of advice- unless you have a specific prayer intention don't line-up for the Black Madonna. You will be in line for at least an hour which would be better spent elsewhere on the mountain. The small art museum is a very nice collection of Spanish artists and takes about 45 minutes to get through. Save some time for a beverage on the terrace overlooking the valley. You get back from the morning tour about 1330.
Even with a lot of fog, the surrounding area was beautiful and had a real mystic and tranquil feeling.
Go early to avoid the huge crowds later.
A great half day tour. Monserrat is beautiful. I particularly liked this tour as there was free time as well to do what we wanted in the town. Highly recommended. Breathtaking spot.
