Absolutely wonderful experience in the able hands of Maria, who went through the basics of Catalan cooking; the rest of us went through several bottles of Catalan red wine, as the class was concluded with a dinner, set in the kitchen where the battle had been won, with the food we had prepared ourselves. Bravo!
This is a must do.
My mother and I had a fabulous time at this class. We were together with 6 other students from around the world. The class started with a trip to La Boqueria market a "must see" when in Barcelona, where we purchased ingredients for our meal.We then returned to the kitchen and started cooking. Ana our teacher was wonderfully patient and full of great information. I can't wait to recreate all of the recipes at home!
Our Cooking Class experience in Barcelona was a delight from start to finish. We signed up for the additional trip to the market, which we highly recommend. We had visited the market (an experience not to be missed) several times, but to do so with a chef was to see it in an entirely new light. Shopping for cuttlefish for the seafood paella was certainly new! Our chef explained the things he was buying and answered our myriad questions.
The meal we prepared had four elements--seafood paella with cuttlefish, prawns, mussels and other tasty bit (an a way of cooking rice we hadn't seen before), crème catalunya, gazpacho and a hors d'oeuvre of vegetables and delicious nora peppers. Our chef ensured everyone had a role in the preparation and the meal was absolutely delicious.
One of the best element was the camaraderie that developed among the group. We were an American couple, and there was an English couple, an American family (whose early-mid teen girls were pulled right into the meal preparation by the chef and into the conversation by everyone else), a young Canadian couple and a young Swedish couple. We all shared a love of (or at least strong interest in) cooking and learning about new cultures. It was really fun to compare notes on their experiences in Barcelona. The class and most of the conversation was in English.
We did the class on our final night in the city after a week's visit, and it was a great way to end the trip. In our view, this is an experience we can highly recommend.
A good representative selection of Spanish food was cooked. The chef was knowledgeable, skilled, good English, and fun. We had a great time!
We had so much fun walking the La Boqueria and the cooking class with Maria this month. We learned so much at La Boqueria and got to participate in the buying of our fresh ingredients we were going to use. Each recipe we made was delicious and we are going to make the tomato bread this weekend. Easy and delicious. Maria helped us make the best paella we ever ate and she made the class fun. We were lucky enough to have a fun engaging group ready to cook, learn and party. If you want fun, wine, good food and learning then take this class. Thank you Maria (regards to hermano y hermana).
The Tour of the Market and the Cooking Class was a fabulous experience!! Both my wife and I enjoyed both and would highly recommend both. The Cooking Class was a hands on experience and our chef instructor was GREAT!!!! We enjoyed the cooking and the meal also. We learned a lot about Spanish Cuisine...Thanks!
Great cooking course. Visit to markets was informative, great fun cooking a variety of food in a fun environment. Thoroughly recommend the class.
We attended the Friday evening class with the market tour. Outstanding! There were 12 participants n the class and we all had a chance to participate. We will definitely use the recipes agian!
My 3 daughters and I enjoyed these classes immensely. Very memorable! Chef David was very knowledgeable and informative and sincerely passionate about cooking! The walk through the market was a great addition to the classes as were the 4 other ladies that attended with us.
Been to Barcelona many time on business but this time I took some time out to learn about Catalan food. Had Quim as my instructor. Really fun and funny guy with a deep understanding of Catalan cuisine. Had a great time and we made the best Paella I have had in Barcelona (on a really large paella pan).
So far my FAVORITE thing I've done in Europe! I sprang for the market tour also - sooo worth it!! If you're a foodie you won't want to miss this! This was so much fun and hands on, plus got a copy of the recipes! This was AWESOME!!!
This was fantastic! Our Chef, Maria, was delightful and obviously very accomplished. Highly recommend adding the market tour which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
This tour was fantastic. I have not done a tour like this before, but I really enjoyed it. We went through the markets and saw the wide range of amazing fresh produce that was available. Our group of 8 people then learnt to prepare a 4 course meal. It was fun, interesting, and in the end really tasty. I would strongly recommend this tour to anybody with aninterest in food, and especially regional cuisine.
This was one of the best things I have ever done. The chef was great fun and I learnt so much about Catelonian and Spanish food. It was a fabulous day. I highly recommend doing the market tour as well. If you appreciate food, good company and exploring new cultures, you will love this. A great day, really well organised and lovely premises.
