Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Small-Group Medieval Villages Day Trip from Barcelona. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
Good meet and greet with our tour guide, as Viator groups are small and well traveled with the guide fluent in what ever the language of the group and history of the site to be visited. We visit Barcelona probably twice a year but Viator gets us outside the city in their car, their map and their driver. The side trips are breath taking, the views wonderful and the guide is not overbearing with a constant patter but gives good details at proper interval. Our three small, rustic, period villages were each unique. We had the guided walk around, seeing the top spots, then an agreed upon meeting time and spot. Then we were free to walk. I had a great espresso in a tiny coffee shop with a floor to ceiling display of miniature hand painted soldiers, Roman through US Civil War, German WW II panzer to NATO in Iraq, there must have been a thousand figures and really great coffee and dark bitter chocolate cookies. Who would have thought, 3rd Century chapels to one of a kind coffee shops. We had a great lunch with our guide in one city at a reasonably priced spot with great local food and wine with time for some shopping by Roman ruins. We had time for all three villages, travel to and from Barcelona and back home for tapas and wine before our supper. Wonderful. We have used Viator several times in Spain and have been well satisfied. We were introduced to Viator by another tour agency in Rome who, as they were not located in Spain, said this was the agency to use. When a competitor recommends you to their paying customers, that is high praise. Chuck and Elisa
A-m-a-z-i-n-g!!!! Fantastic villages, fantastic scenery and the most awesome tour guide ever!!! Right from the start our guide was both engaging and a font of knowledge. We effectively got a driving tour from te minute he arrived, well before we got anywhere near the villages. If you book one tour in advance, do this one. If you can pick your guide pick Filiciano - he is awesome!
We had a wonderful day. I loved seeing these ancient sites that gave a glimpse of how people lived in this region in the 12th century, but also how people live in these same sites today. We arrived in the first village on market day and got to sample some local food products and other wares. Our guide was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about sharing local history and customs. We had free time at each of the sites to wander, take pictures and shop. In the village where we stopped for lunch, she described some of the local restaurants so that each couple could choose for themselves. She also suggested the option of buying sausage, cheese, bread and wine in the market place so we could picnic when we stopped for lunch, which one couple did. The local sausage, I think called "senta", was really good. And try the local liqueur (ratafia)-potent stuff - although I preferred the crema de ratafia myself. The countryside is beautiful and these ancient villages are fascinating. The guide was delightful. I think this trip offered good value for money and the opportunity to personalize the experience a little bit. I would absolutely recommend this tour. Also make sure to check out the Palacia de Musica opposite the company's office. The building is gorgeous and I hear the acoustics are fabulous. Lots of different kinds of musical and dance programs are offered there, also some shopping an a cafe.
this was by far the best tour i took amazing small medieval villages that where just amazing with amazing views on the drive to these places too! Also a really great tour guide!
This is a must do trip if you are in barcelona. You get to really see the country
All the medieval villages were so interesting to see, history and background given to us by our guide Enrique. Worth seeing
What a treat this was! The entire tour day was one of my favorites in Spain. It was hard to pick a favorite site, Besalu and Rupit were picture perfect. The guide, Enrique, was a pleasure to be with and I would highly recommend this tour. I will most definitely be using Viator in the future. Thanks Viator!!
Besalu and Rupit were perfection! Thank you Viator for a perfect trip!
Beautiful sights!!! Amazing history told! Our tour guide was friendly, knew his history and seemed to enjoy what he did for a living. It is very small, so you get to enjoy it more. Maybe bring your on food incase of disappointment with the restaurants, as there expensive and bad service.
It was an unbelievable experience. The guide was spectacular. Very educational and relaxing. A photographer's dream. The size of the group was comfortable. Felt very safe on the drive. Can't wait to go again.
Outstanding. Met all expectations and then some. The guide was spectacular. l I had no idea how much fun and educational this trip could be. The towns were breathtaking.
This trip was fantastic. Got to see Spain frozen 1,000 years ago. Our guide, Feliciano was amazing. Very knowledgeable and made the ride very pleasant. The small group also allowed us to get in and out of areas quickly giving us enough time in all 3 locations. This trip is a must do!
