Our Bayeux tour was a complete success. I can't speak highly enough of Mathieu, our guide for the day.
We were looking for a short and focused tour that focused on the Canadian role in WWII and visiting relevant historical sites. Specifically, we wanted to visit Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery, where my great uncle was buried. This tour fit the bill perfectly.
Mathieu picked up our small group of eight Canadians at the train station and we immediately set off into the countryside. Mathieu speaks English well and has a fun personality, and we all got along well. We fit a lot into our five hours together, including a stop at the Bay of Arromanches, time walking along Juno Beach, and a visit to the Juno Beach Centre, admission to which was included in the cost of this tour. (Advice: be sure to manage your time inside the centre.)
I was thrilled to visit the cemetery where my great-uncle is buried. I had looked up the location of his tombstone on the web, so quickly found it upon our arrival. That was a touching moment for the tour.
In terms of logistics, given our tight travel schedule, we wanted a tour short enough that we could do it as a day trip from Paris. This one worked quite well - we took an 8:45 am train out of Paris, which arrived in time to allow us to walk into town (under 10 min walk) for lunch. Mathieu picked us up at the train station at 1 pm and we were back shortly after 6 pm. As we had booked a 7:22 pm return train, we had plenty of time to head to a pub in town for dinner and a beer, before heading back to the station and Paris.
We'd like to return to Bayeux one day and spend more time there, but for now, this tour was exactly what we wanted. The registration process was easy and the experience was professional. We highly recommend this tour - a highlight of our trip to France.
This was a fantastic tour. Our tour guide Ann Sophie, was incredibly knowledgeable about the Canadian landing and various other historic points of interest. My Dad landed on Juno Beach June 6 as a member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles it was a dream come true for me! Thank-you to Ann Sophie and the Normandy Battlefields tour for making this a day we will never forget. Kitty and Kevin.
Great tour! The guide picked us up promptly from the Bayeux train station and was extremely knowledgeable about all of the Canadian WWII sites. We liked that it was a small group, as it was more personal. We enjoyed the Juno Beach Museum and learning about the area's history. I'd recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about Canadian WWII history.
Sylvain was marvellous in every respect and we feel so lucky to have had him as our guide. His knowledge
of everything to do with the pre-during-post D Day history and happenings is obviously broad and he imparts information clearly, concisely, with use of some excellent visuals such as photos and diagrams. He did not seem rushed in the least and was only keeping an eye on the time to be sure those on the tour with a train to catch would not be late. He is enthusiastic and very personable...just could not say enough positive things about him and about our tour. Thanks very much to him - and to your company.
We had an excellent experience. Our guide was very knowledgable about the history pertaining to the Canadian troops and their efforts on DDay. We would highly recommend this tour.

Our experience on our Canadian World War 11 Sites was more than we could have dreamed of and then some. Our tour guide, Mattiew, was extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating to our small group. Our uncle is buried in the Canadian Cemetery at Beny-Sur-Mer and we were able to pay respects and give thanks. I would highly recommend this tour if you are visiting Paris and suggest that you request Mattiew if that is possible. The train ride was about 2 1/2 hours and was very comfortable.
We had limited time, and came from Paris by train. The tour was all we hope for such a short period of time, our guide was excellent, knowledgeable and provided us rich details about the sites and the events.
Mathieu is a great tour guide. He is knowledgable and passionate about his subject and added to our experience. My daughter had done a history of WWII course at university but learned details she did not know. We visited Juno Beach, the museum, house that stood alone on the beach and he showed us, with fantastic photos and explanations, all about the temporary harbour at Port Winston. He gave credit to the Canadian contribution and helped us to understand what a hard-one success D-Day was. It was very moving to visit Abby Ardene and hear the story of the Canadian prisoners of war who were killed and of the family that lived in the house when the Germans arrived. It was a peaceful setting as was the cemetery where so many very young men were interred. I would definitely recommend this tour.
We had a wonderful tour with Lucille.
She was very knowledgeable about all the areas we visited and also very courteous. One of our friends found her Uncle's grave and was extremely happy. We all felt we had sufficient time to wander in all sites and were impressed with the Museum and grounds. Lest we forget.
Overall as Canadians we feel very glad we had the chance to take this tour. Thank you.
Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpfull. I wouldly highly recommend Viator based on our experience on our tour of the Canadian D-Day sites
An interesting, in-depth tour of the Canadian sites. Our guide (Lucille, I think) was personable and very knowledgeable. It was great to see the Juno Beach museum which tells the stories of Canadian soldiers. Afterwards we had very pleasant dinner at La Reine Mathilde, a café recommended by our guide. In all, a very pleasant day. I would definitely recommend this tour.
What a wonderful, humbling experience,to see that the French People still are so thankful for their freedom when our own people throw it around so carelessly
This was very enjoyable and informative. WE really liked our guide and the way in which she honoured our questions. THe timing was also excellent.
OUR GUIDE DID A GREAT JOB OF THE TOUR AND SEEMED VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE TOPIC AND GEOGRAPHY. SHE ALSO WENT OUT OF HER WAY TO SHOW US SOME EXTRA PLACES OF INTEREST DURING THE TOUR.
Vincent met us at the Train Station in Bayeux at the perscribed time and showed us an amazing afternoon. The area is so rich in history it truly made me proud to be a Canadian. I was honoured to stand in the places so many Canadian heros stood. The Abbey was an amazing place and it was something I knew nothing about.
Vincent was so well versed in the history of the region he made the tour great.
If you have the chance to go, it is a short and direct train ride from Paris. Thanks for a great afternoon.
