It was the Great Wall of China. What more can I say? It was an excellent experience.
What a great experience. The guidebooks said this was not a good spot to see the wall, but I completely disagree. If you don't have much time in China, this was a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.
I thought this tour was excellent.
We went to Ming Tombs, which wasnt much to see, but refleshing to get out of the city. Great wall, proves to be great, huge and very very steep to walk. Make sure you are physicall and mentally prepared for the climb, else you can sit by the starting point, and enjoy the view.
The tour also includes jade factory and tea sampling from Dr. Tea. Jade factory was typicall of them trying to get you to purchase, which we didnt.
However at Dr. Tea, we sampled really good tea and purchased some. When we were back, we realised its a SCAMand we were conned!! Be very careful and dont purchase anything from this trip. The tea we purchased turns out to be GRASS, and we're not even sure if its produced without chemical. Thus, we threw all the tea out (which we spent about 500 RMB). Its very upsetting tha Viator does not have more strict rules on the agencies and would really recommend them to review their agencies again!!
Had a great time on the tour of the Great Wall. We were picked up promptly at 7:00 am at our hotel. A very nice mini bus and only 5 people on our tour. Our tour guide Jackie Le was just a wealth of information, not only about the Great Wall but, Beijing as well. We went to the Ming Tombs first and no crowds at all, very interesting. Then, to a jade factory. I liked it but, I read some reviews where people thought it was too touristy. I enjoyed it and purchased a few trinkets. Lunch was good, included in the price. We got to the Wall after lunch and were given 1 1/2 hours to explore/climb. It was just enought for me but, I suppose some people would have liked more time. On the way home Jackie had the bus driver take us past some of the Venues from the '08 Beijing Olympics including the "birds nest". Very impressive! Then we stopped at a silk factory. I found it interesting but, again I don't know if everyone would. We had a great day and were back at our hotel before 5:00. I would definitely use Viator again and request Jackie Le. We booked online and got a discount, where do you go wrong with approx 65 USD for a whole day tour and information learned that you would never get if you did this on your own!
The great wall is a very impressive must-do. Our tour guide Jason had very fluent english. The ming tomb was interesting but we were disapointed that the spirit way was not included in the tour or proposed as an option.
To many stops at factories, but the great wall and the Ming Tombs was good. Our guide was nice, but she talked too fast with some accent, which made it difficult to understand everything she said.
Convenient way to see the Great Wall, as transport to the area can be difficult otherwise. Sufficient time at both the Great Wall and Ming Tombs and an excellent and knowledgeable guide and driver but could have avoided the hour-each 'tourist traps' to a Pearl Market and a Tea Shop, which were clearly on a commission basis.
Great tour - very interesting. Excellent tour guide - pleasant, informative, friendly and very thoughtful. Kept tour 'moving along' at a good pace! A real asset to your company - thank you Jackie!
The tour picked us up at our hotel exactly on time. We thought we would be on a bus full of people, but we were in a van and it was just the two of us, the driver and the guide. He offered to take us to a different part of the wall because the Badaling section is the busiest. He took us to the "quieter" Juyong Pass, but there was still a ton of people there. It took 1.5 hours to get from our hotel near the Forbidden City to the Wall. The guide told us a bit about the wall and took some photos of us before letting us go off on our own for 1.5 hours. From there we drove to the Ming Tombs. We were brought to the largest of the tombs and spent about an hour there. Afterwards, we were taken to the Jade Market. We were shown how the jade is mined and sculpted and then we were led into a giant store. Showing us how it was made was a great way to get us to buy something. At the Jade Factory, we had our lunch: a pre-set Chinese meal. After the Jade Factory, we were taken to Dr. Tea where we we took part in a "tea ceremony" and were shown how to properly drink tea. Again, we were introduced to how tea is made and the different kinds with the intent to sell us tea (which we bought). At that point, we returned to the hotel. The tour was from 7:30 am to about 1:30 pm and we were thoroughly tired by the end. The guide didn't do a lot of talking (he was sick), but he was very nice and informative. It was nice to have our own guide so we could go at our own pace. You spend a lot of time driving on this tour (you drive past the Olympic Park). It was worth it though.
Good way to see the main attractions of Beijing. Negative: some visits are not listed in the itinerary and are oriented to make the tourist buy souvenirs.
Enjoyed the Tour we had lot's of fun - this part of the wall is a tough climb tho! Afterwards we went to the Ming Tombs and caught the re-enactment show there which was great. Our guide Cherry was informative and fun :)
