What You Can Expect
Enjoy a traditional Chinese lunch and visit the famous Longdi Jade Factory to see how jade is carved. Then, head to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. This towering granite wall, extending 7,381 feet (2,250 meters), was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644) as a military alternative to the Great Wall of China at Badaling. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is characterized by grand military towers along the wall and is lined with green trees and flowers. Take a cable car ride to the top to get fantastic views of the Great Wall stretching into the distance.
On the way back to Beijing, stop at a local shop to view Ming Dynasty cloisonné artwork, ranging from colorful enamel bowls to intricately designed vases.
Great tour! I was taken to only one tomb and only its main hall. I think visiting two or three of the open tombs would be great to give one a good sense of the site. The Great Wall was exceptional, and I am giving the tour a 5 largely because of the Great Wall visit. The drive and scenery of Beijing outskirts were excellent.
Tour guide Cynthia was tops. She was knowledgeable, and fun to be with. Picked us up at the stated time, and from there had a great time. Great Wall is magnificent - and her historical knowledge enhanced the experience. Tombs were spectacular, as was the Jade Factory. Great lecture about Jade. The craftsmen and women working there were fascinating. The tea tasting was a treat --- an all around great day. Cynthia made the Beijing visit worth every penny.
