Great Wall of China
Enjoy a traditional Chinese lunch and visit the famous Longdi Jade Factory to see how jade is carved. Then, head to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. This towering granite wall, extending 7,381 feet (2,250 meters), was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644) as a military alternative to the Great Wall of China at Badaling. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is characterized by grand military towers along the wall and is lined with green trees and flowers. Take a cable car ride to the top to get fantastic views of the Great Wall stretching into the distance.
On the way back to Beijing, stop at a local shop to view Ming Dynasty cloisonné artwork, ranging from colorful enamel bowls to intricately designed vases.

A good day; seemed a little dear but saw nothing (trustworthy!) cheaper anywhere, not even from the hotel tour desk. Great to see the Wall. You wouldn't have time to walk up and back so the cable car is a necessary extra - 80yuan return trip and you choose cable or luge back down. We did the luge back down - and you can control the speed downhill yourself so it is fun, give it a go! Jason was our guide, very nice man and did a good job. Car and driver good. Lunch was fine with lots of dishes; the jade factory was interesting. Only disappointment is the fact that you can't actually go inside the excavated tombs, its just the above ground building with some of the relics inside. So the "underground Palace" isn't open to the public at all. A good day out, recommended.

Our guide was just so-so. He did not go to the wall with us, instead sat in the car and waited. He did not provide much information - was more a translator for the driver of the van. We had much better luck when we hired a private guide the following day.
