WOW! This was an awesome day....we met Jen our guide and were very pleased to discover it was only the two of us, a friend of his from Turkey, and himself....a private tour......
It was cool and raining, so Jn suggested we bypass going to Ostend and start in Ghent and see if the weather improved....Took us to the train station and we boarded immediately. Made it to Ghent by 9:30 and started the tour. hopped a train to the center and were amazed. Great info and history. stopped at the smallest bar and had ChocoMel. A great warmer on a cold day....qcontinued on tour and headed back to train station. hopped a train to Brugges. Arrived in 30 minutes.
Walked and took a canal ride, saw awesome sites. Visited a flea market and bought a terra cotta and glass tile bowl for 20 Euro!!!!
Had a great lunch of Finnish stew and frites. With mayonnaise of course! yummy! Continued through Brugges for several hours and then headed back to station. Jen gave us the option to head to Ostend, weather still rainy, or back to Brusells and a short tour there. we chose back to Brussells. Awesome day, guide, food, info, EVERYTHING. best thing, we paid for nothing all day except for the bowl!,,
The trip was great. A fantastic way to really get to see Belgium if you're going in a short time span. The tour guide was great and the group was small so it was very personable. Bruge is unbelievably beautiful. You get to see many different tourist sites and historical monuments. The only thing I would have changed about the trip was the trip to the coastal city, there was not much to do there and would have preferred to have stayed at Bruge. Oh they take you for lunch and you get a real taste of Belgium cuisine.
This was an awesome tour. Mark was an excellent tour guide. He pays special attention to his customers and can personalize the trip based on where the group is heading. I would recommend this tour. Have fun !!
The tour simply could not have been better. My guide was fantastic! No question went unanswered. I was able to really gain knowledge and appreciation for the Belgian culture. The sites and food were wonderful. Thank you, Viator!
Awesome trip--saw and learned a great deal of the country. Sampled the Belgium specialities and had a great time.
it was amazing, our guide was fun and very friendly. We were just us in the tour so, i think it was perfect, it was the best thing that we could have done in our Belgium trip! I definitely recommend it!
The trip overall was excellent. The tour started with a pickup at my hotel by the owner of the tour group. We met the tour guide and I was told we would have a private tour. Although we did take public transportation everywhere it was a good way to see the country and scenery. I was also able to tailor the tour a bit more to me and what I wanted to see. The tour guide was very accomodating. The cities seen were very beautiful...although I would have liked to stay more in Brugge and we missed the castle tour in Ghent I wanted to see due to timing. We did make it back to Brussels in time to join in on a dinner tour and grab some Belgian foods and dessert! A great day overall and a good way to see Northern Belgium and some of it's jewels.
My experience overall was a good one. The tour starter about 10 min. late but there was just myself and one other couple in a car so it was more like a private tour. The guide, Cristos, was very knowledgeable. The only disappointment was that we skipped the canal ride in Bruges as they only took full boats and the way we were timed, we would have had to wait for more that 30 min. One suggestion would be: instead of Antwerp as a stop, go to Ghent. Christos gave us the choice and I wanted to visit the house of Rubens, which is well worth seeing if you have the time, but given the choice, go with Ghent. It is comparable to Brugge in my opinion. The trip only booked on Saturday, which meant bigger crowds and more traffic after 11. We stopped at a great restaurant for lunch with great Belgian food (however, the Americans chose lasagne! Go figure.) None of us were beer drinkers, but we did visit a lace shop and a chocolate. Christos also turned out to be a great magician and did a couple of tricks during lunch and a break in a cafe later in the day. This added to the trip for me. From start to finish, the trip lasted about 12 and a half hours. A full day. Of course it's imposible to see Belgium in a day, but you get a sense that you have seen a great deal in the time that you spend during this day. I would certainly recommend it.
The tour itself was lovely. The tour guide, on the other hand, wasn't exactly forthcoming with information. It seemed like the guide was more interested in just walking along and turning around occasionally to ensure he hadn't lost our group. Getting information out of our guide was almost like pulling teeth. We did take a boat tour of some canals in Bruges, and the boat driver was helpful in pointing out key buildings.
The Tour Operator delegated a bad-looking, seriously smoking "guide", without any local knowledge about the sight, however
he knew which train shall we choose.
It turned out that the guy's profession is painter and he is a friend of the tour operator.
Not even we, but tho other Australian guests were upset and feel us betrayed. I do not recommend anyine to book this one!
