The tour was enjoyable, although the weather was rainy and unpredictable. The guide narrated in German and translated into English, although sometimes it was difficult to keep up with the translation as the boat had gone past what had been described
we booked three tours in all Berlin historic sight seeing, Dresdner, and the boat trip, all were excellent tours
First of all: the address given was wrong and I spent an hour wandering around Charlottenburg castle before I took a major detour and found the boat by accident. What a drag.
Besides that mishap, the tour itself was quite pleasant. The boat has an enclosed area below where you can get food, and an open air top with lots of seats to enjoy the weather. We saw lots of buildings, many of them apartments, but also some of the major sights like remnants of the Wall.
I good tour for a leisurely couple of hours when your feet are sore from pounding the pavement.
This trip benefited from the fact that it was a sunny day. The trip was relaxing and informative. It takes time to get going as the start is a bit out of the centre. It is also a bit front loaded with most of the major sites being in the first couple of hours. Although, the reverse journey along the canal was beautiful and I saw bits of the city the I wouldn't normally do. The guide was in German and English and very thorough and informative. The boat was comfortable and smooth. Facilities were fine. There is a decent choice of food and drink in the cafe.
Some thoughts - - only two departure times were offered whereas in fact several tours are run throughout the day, could more options be offered. When only 6 people turned up for my boat (1st of the day) they said it was not enough to run the tour and we had to wait 50 mins for the next one. This was down time in a three day trip. The booking form does not identify the operator of the boat. There are other companies operating from the other bank so some clarity may help some people. The tour has a number of pick up drop off points and people were boarding at all of these to do the full tour. Could more embarkation points be offered which may be more convenient to travellers rather than going out to Charlottenburg (although the castle gardens there are beautiful and free to wander round). These are small administrative matters as the overall experience was good. It was nice to relax after a couple of days touring on foot. Anthony
This is a good river trip from the outskirts. Best not to do a shorter one previously, like I did, because you then have a big overlap.
The personal guide was great. He was Extremely knowledgeable and couldn't do enough for you. He even arranged for us to get off at a closer stop to our hotel. The tea and butter almond cake are great and so were the crepes. It's a three to four hour trip, so relax and go with it.
Was a great tour. We decided to go to the boat dock early and were able to go see the Charlottenburg palace as its just a few blocks away as an extra tourist event. Food and drink available on board were quite good. The perspective of seeing some of the sites from the river was quite interesting. Would recommend it.
Very good value for the money. The guide was bilingual, speaking both German and English. Saw many interesting locales. Unfortunately, some other passengers got drunk and let their kids run wild, but the company couldn't do much about that!
A good distance travelled around the city seeing many of the beautiful buildings. Well worth the cost, just a pity the commentary was only in German
Very good cruise .Though we are in Germany many visitors speak English the tour guide sounded very interesting (in German). Would it not be possible to have an audio English translation?
A very comprehensive overview of the city taking in a number of historical landmarks, stunning new developments and even parts of the old East Berlin still waiting to be redeveloped. A pleasant surprise was when we left the river itself and cruised around the various canals bordered by extensive parklands and recreational areas. This enabled us to get a fuller image of the totality of Berlin itself without the need to return to the starting point the same way that we had started out from. Extensive commentary was given throughout the trip but it was a pity that non German speakers were not catered for in any way .
