This started in more of an industrial area, which was a long way from the main part of the city. There were stops where people got off We did that as well. I didn't see anyone getting on at these other stops, but that might have been more conducive to the trip. We would have preferred to get on at the government complex dock and then get off there as well as on the return. The boats were not as modern as many of the others on the river and the English translator lacked knowledge of the language.
Nice tour. Leisurely. Unfortunately, if you were interested in information...........as an English speaking person, this is not for you. English 20%, German 80%
ENCONTRAR EL LUGAR PARA TOMAR EL BOTE FUE MUY DIFICIL PORQUE LAS INDICACIONES NO ERAN CLARAS. ADEMAS FUIMOS LAS UNICAS TURISTAS EN EL BOTE. LO PEOR FUE QUE LA GUIA SOLO HABLABA ALEMAN Y SE SUPONIA QUE ERA EN INGLES

Nice trip, but the guide's explanations were only in German. Neither audioguide nor written info in English was provided or even offered to non German speaking passengers. A bit of cosmopolitanism, please! Regrettable attitude towars tourists.
Its a nice trip if the weather is nice otherwise you will be cold. There is no commentry in English, all you are given is a little leaflet, so in that respect you are just going for a boat ride. The lady at the landaing was quite rude and did not give any information. The landing stage itself is way out of town. So if you want something a little more easy choose a crusie that has a central landing stage. Once you get off the boat you cannot get back on it. Although, it was nice through the main parts of town (as we know the centre quite well), but the second half is a bit boring. You also need to be aware that the boat does not stop at all the stops shown on the map. If you need to get off early like we did - you have to let them know on the bus. We found it expensive for what you actually got for your money.
It could have been a disaster as on the scheduled day we were due to depart, due to the rain we called ahead to re-arrange for the next day - only to be told the trip had been cancelled by the operators!! Luckily we didn't make the trip to the launch jetty to find out it had been cancelled!! So I recommend you always call ahead! It further started as a big challenge to actually find the launch jetty after departing from the Underground station. There were no signs and even the locals didn't know where the jetty was located! We arrived with a minute to spare as the directions were totally inadequate. The boat trip itself was good, although the guide only spoke in German our fault for not speaking the language requiring us to follow a book with pictures in English. Very confusing. Saying that we did enjoy our trip and saw many great sites in Berlin via the river - although we did dismount at the half way point rather than do the whole trip again in reverse, which probably would have been a waste of time. So certaily could be much better!
There are many different cruises you can purchase in Berlin, but this is just about the longest of them all. There were a few nice sights that we would not have seen on the shorter cruises, but the final 1 hour is spend going down a narrow canal with very little to see. We actually got off a stop early, which worked out quite well, since we were right in the heart of the embassies, many of them showed some astounding and impressive architecture. The crew was less than friendly. The server only came by once at the beginning, then he spent the rest of the cruise sitting at a table with his friends. It was raining, so we spent most of the cruise on the lower level, but at one point I tried to go to the top, when I was blocked by the kitchen staff, who were on a smoke break. The would not let me by to the top level, even though it was open and other people were there. I had to wait for their very long break to end for them to clear the stairway so I could go up. I do recommend a river cruise in Berlin, but perhaps not this one.
The biggest downfall was that the commentaries were in GERMAN! This was rather disappointing. Also the location to get on the boat was rather out of the way, and there were other operators that were centrally located with English commentaries.
Because there were only 2-3english speaker we were given a booklet to read! Not interesting. Didn't always know where we were.
Commentary was 100% Geman. We dont speak German. Really disappointed.
The Guide spent a great deal of time speaking German and gave only a cursory explanation in English. When we asked him to pay some attention to the english speaking passengers... a request that was echoed by many others... he stood and announced to us that things were going by too quickly for him to devote any more time to English. Shortly after, we got off of the boat. To my mind, the tour was a waste of money.
Absolute disgrace that this tour is even being offered. It states there is written commentary available in English - there wasn't any! This is despite the fact that the landing stages all have posters showing all the different languages that are supposed to be catered for. For the most mind-numbingly boring thing to do in Berlin, take this tour. The waitress on board can't speak English either so we had to point at the menu. Longest 3 hours of my life, with half of it spent trying to work out what everyone else was looking at and the rest with a lovely view of a very narrow canal and canal walls as the boat tries to squeeze past other boats. Don't waste your money! Guide is able to speak English though as he clearly demonstrated by shouting at some kids on the boat.
If you do not speak German I would highly recommend that you avoid this tour. The "written English version" is a binder with photos in it. You will spend so much time trying to match the photos to what you are seeing, and reading what each site has to say that you will begin to miss the sights! Furthermore, the frequent and lengthy stops will go from tiresome to completely boring to driving you to a form of desperation that will make you seriously consider hopping overboard! If it is a hot/ sunny day these lengthy stops in the direct sunlight with no shade provided on the top of the boat will make you begin to melt.
We were all positive that this was a "brilliant" marketing scheme to "encourage" passengers to spend more money on beer and beverages... unfortunately a side effect of this scheme is to make for very unhappy clients.
Stay away unless melting boredom and having wasted 3 hours of your vacation is an idea of a good time for you and your group!
Berlin was great but do not waste half a day there on this tour! You don't see much, they give the wrong starting point address, and they are not good at all... Plus, the English paper guide wasn't anything good. See Berlin on foot, bus, train, or tram... But not boat. Youll regret it and be wasting our money
Boring, also not told we could not board at our hotel (Melia)
The starting point was not central and if I went again I would not pre-book. That way I could just go to a starting point closer to where I was staying.
Had difficulty finding landing stage for start of cruise Guide only spoke in german no written english handed out at all . Was told that if we wanted the 4 hours trip we would have to wait for another boat to come back on.so we alighted the boat at city centre. This trip was a waste of time and money and would not recommend it to anyone.
