Really surprised how many manta rays I saw up close. Such beautiful animals.
I went on this tour as a "ride along", meaning I didn't get in the water. I listened in on all of the briefing that everyone recieved before getting in the water and learned a great deal about manta rays. As everyone else got in the water I went up to the upper deck and starting taking pictures. I could actually see the manta rays as they approached the snorkelers and got some great pictures. Much to my surprise one of the manta rays swam to the back of the boat and began jumping out of the water giving me the opportunity for some of the best photos I could have possibly hoped for. This excursion was definitely worth the time and money.
The Manta Ray Night Snorkel was so fun! The fee included a wet suit, snorkel and mask. The captain and the crew were very helpful. We were "schooled" in how to hold on and what to do when the manta rays got close. What a life time experience. The captain new exactly where to take us as we saw a number of manta rays up close. It was an added benefit that a professional photographer was in the water taking photos. I would do this again!!!
Amazing experience - hadn't expected we would get so close to the rays. If you do not have transport - take the trolley ($2) to the Sheraton and take a taxi back ($25 approx to Kona)
This was one of the highlights of our trip. A must due very friendly staff and nice boat.
This was a fantastic evening. It was nothing short of spectacular seeing the manta rays so close up and watching them do their somersaults. It was cold in the water but well worth getting cold for. Good video footage is taken by the onboard photographer. Definitely take warm clothes for afterwards but they provide warm soup and hot chocolate so all in all it was a super fantastic night.
Amazing experience!! There were only a couple of rays in the area, but one of them spent the whole time feeding right under us - coming within 6" of my face mask on several occasions. The only frustrating part of the trip were the other idiots in the water who refused to listen to simple instructions from the guide - such as "don't touch the rays" and "stop swimming around." This is overall a great experience and I highly recommend!!
Sadly, no manta rays showed up on the night we snorkeled, but then, they are wild animals with a schedule of their own. We were given a voucher to try again the next night at no charge, but we were not able to take advantage of the offer since we had another tour scheduled. In spite of the lack of mantas, we still enjoyed our time.
The best time I had the entire week! What an experience...being so close to those beautiful creatures. A "must-do" on Big Island!!
These sea creatures are "other worldly".... simply beautiful :) The night time experience was one that I felt will be burned in my memory for the rest of my life.
Amazing experience. Everyone that visits the Big Island should do this.
Brilliant experience. Tour staff where friendly and helpful, snorkel equipment and wetsuits in excellent condition. would definitely recommend.
Easily THE most incredible thing i've ever done. We were lucky enough to get one of the best shows of the year, 5 large manta's (there are apparently normal only about 2) all putting on a show just inches from our face. This is so magical and peaceful, I would do it again in a heartbeat. what beautiful, majestic creatures.
Seeing the Manta Ray's was incredible! The captain and his crew were great too! My only complaint is that I would advise the company in charge of this to not allow individuals to bring their own equipment and to let them swim on their own/wherever they want. We had two people who did just this and kept pulling on the float system at the end where I was located. This jostled me so much that it had a negative effect on my experience. They would swim around the float where everyone was holding on and do their own thing which was very disruptive! Other wise, the experience was truly wonderful.
