Weather was marvellous and tour was very comprehensive. The driver David was very well informed and knowledgeable. Good recommendation for lunch.
Long day but it was excellent. Newport was so interesting. Thanks
Great day, great city! As Dave, the tour director says, he's never had a bad day in Newport. Dave was very knowledgeable and we had fun. Great mansions from a bygone era.
I didn't know what to expect from Newport - but I was blown away - so much grandeur, history and wealth. I heard stories about Jacqui, JFK, the Rockerfellers and the Vanderbilts. I got to see mansions and I had a lovely lunch by the water. This was the highlight of my trip to Boston. If you have a day in Boston - you must do this tour.
Newport is a fantastic destination for a day trip.
The opulence and splendor of the mansions are definitely worth seeing.
Our favourite tour of the 4 we did from Boston. This was a really excellent tour with a very ,experienced guide/driver. We saw two fantastic mansions belonging to the Vanderbilts as well as enjoying the waterfront at Newport and seeing the replica of the Mayflower.
We enjoyed it so much that I would do it all again tomorrow if I could.
This trip is a must if you have time in the Boston area to do it. Newport is a beautiful coastal town with typical touristy businesses that do not disappoint. Our driver/guide, Dave, was very knowledgeable about every home on the coastal tour and historical happenings during the Guilded Age of history. We toured the Breakers and The Marble House. We had a 2 hour lunch stop and ate at The Black Pearl, a small restaurant with the best clam chowder and crab cakes! The peak fall foliage and warm temperatures make this tour fabulous! This would also be beautiful to see during the Christmas season.
absolutely wonderful, would highly recommend it, especially on a sunny day!
Excellent trip wonderful guide in Mark very knowledgeable and seemed to really enjoy showing us around went out of his way to explain everything to us and nothing was a problem to him. Tell him well done.
Very nice day out of Boston. You get to see how the other half lived and stop in a Newport. We had 2.5 hours there but I could have easily spent more time there. Quaint sea side town, many restaurants and plenty of shops to see. Would recommend this tour. Tour includes admission to 2 mansions. Cant take photos though- so be prepared.
Excellent tour. Both mansions were well worth seeing. Plenty of time in Newport to have lunch and shop.
The Tour guide was very professional and took the time to go around and find one of the tourist who didnot show up at the specified site .( Was waiting at the site we were dropped.)
This was a wonderful trip! The driver was amazing and very knowledgeable. He showed us so many things and had many interesting little facts to share along the way. The mansions were very interesting to explore. We also had a nice time walking through Newport and having lunch. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. I might actually go again during the holiday season!
My sister and I will be talking about this trip for a long time. Wonderful time so much to see, we could do it again. The driver was very informative pointing out details along the way, history, and human interests. Just wish the buses were newer, the seats weren't that comfortable and somewhat bumpy. But we enjoyed the trip and would recomend highly. Nice to have someone else do the driving!
I thought that The Newport Mansions Tour was excellent. I would definitely do it again upon my return to Boston as I couldn't get enough of Newport in one day. The Mansions were exquisite and the tour guide was extremely informative both going and returning on our trip. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Boston. I give it a 5 star rating!
To have the chance to visit only 2 of the many stately houses in Newport really opened our eyes to the way the elite past wealthy residents of other cities enjoyed their summer vacations. The tour guide was knowledgeable and imparted that information to us. He gave us more than sufficient time to see and experience what was available to view. Add this tour to your itinerary as it was extremely entertaining.
It's a realized American dream.

Was a wonderful way to spend a day. They sure knew how to live. Tour also showed that being rich did not bring you happiness.
I love this tour! The only thing is we were having high hopes to see the Vanderbilt but we were told we won't be able to do it until we have finished the Elms. The Elms is beautiful but it is disappointing to know we cannot see the Vanderbilt. Still this tour is recommendable!
Overall, we found this tour quite enjoyable. The bus ride was pleasant and the driver, Dave, kept things lively and interesting with an on-going narrative of history and anecdotes about the sights we were seeing as we went around Newport. The Marble House and The Breakers were quite impressive, a walk-through that takes you to a different era to see how the richest and most powerful people in America used to live. My only quibbles were about time and the place we picked for lunch. We wished that we had more time for the actual mansion tours as we weren't able to follow the audio-guides the staff provided. The narratives the voices provided on each room were quite interesting but there simply wasn't enough time to listen to them in full and so we had to keep moving, which was a bit frustrating. At lunchtime, my wife and I went to The Black Pearl which had gotten very good reviews, particularly for its clam chowder. There we had the clam chowder, lobster and scallops. While none of the dishes were bad, neither were they memorable, just okay, which was disappointing. Particularly given the tab that exceeded 90 for the two of us. I don't mind paying extra for exceptional food, but what we had was just average, nothing to rave about, let alone want to go back for. So lunch was definitely something of a let-down.
All in all though, we did enjoy this tour and consider it a very good value for the price. Definitely recommended. Just make sure to make the best use of your time in the mansions, and don't bother with The Black Pearl.
It was a great way to visit Newport and to see 2 of the mansions. I think the driver spent too much time driving us around Newport and therefore we only had about an hour at each mansion. You really need at least 1 1/2 hours to see the house and also walk the grounds. Also spent about 3 hours in Newport for our lunch break - not sure that amount of time is needed. Would have rather visited a 3rd mansion.
Also, if you go get back to the bus on time, we had people late on 2 of the stops and the driver was not happy !!!
