Brewery and Beer-Tasting Tour in Brooklyn

Beer tasting in Brooklyn

Take a beer-lover's excursion through the brewing history of Brooklyn, New York during this 3.5-hour walking tour visiting some of the borough's resurgent breweries and fascinating past. This beer-themed walking tour is the perfect chance to get a sense for the rich history of beer craftsmanship in the area, along with an opportunity to experience the more recent renaissance in beer making that is once again making Brooklyn a brewing hotspot for beer aficionados worldwide.

At the beginning of the 1900s, Brooklyn was known as the 'Milwaukee of the East' thanks to its privileged positioned as the home of more than 40 breweries. Yet by the 1970s, the vast majority had closed or moved, due to factors including high labor costs, the impact of prohibition and changes in technology. However, over the past several decades a variety of beer lovers have resuscitated the beer-brewing craft, opening a variety of breweries, beer retail shops and bars that celebrate the district's historic beer lineage.

Start your walking tour at noon in Brooklyn's Williamsburg area, where you'll meet your guide. Check with your tour operator for the exact meeting location. Then follow along as you visit one of the area's favorite local breweries, stepping inside for a tour of the facilities and a tasting. Continue next to the birthplace of Brooklyn's brewing industry as you check out a number of vintage 19th-century buildings that were once home to the neighborhood's many breweries. Listen to anecdotes from your guide about the German immigrants that once lived, and brewed, in this section of Brooklyn. Then stop by the Church of Most Holy Trinity – St. Mary, a picturesque church that was built in the mid-18th century.

Take a break from your walking for a full lunch (included) at a local pizzeria, which is known for its fresh ingredients. Finish your Brooklyn beer walking tour at a local watering hole, where you'll have a chance to sample a few more local brews.

It was pretty freezing outside but our tour was let in early which was great. Our guide Josh was really knowledgeable and had a great enthusiasm for the brewery. It helped also that the staff member who gave the tour was so funny and very informative. We had some great beers at the brewery itself, then onto amazing pizza and a few other bars and more beers. Cannot recommend this highly enough as you also get to experience a taste of Brooklyn which you might not otherwise see and places you might never know about

A tour, not just of the brewery itself but of the brewing district of early Brooklyn. The sociology of the brewing industries effects and contributions to community development is fascinating. Then read Colm Tiobin's "Brooklyn" if you are interested in the early immigrants coming alive for you.
