Many of Australia’s sporting legends have been made here at the Australian Institute of Sport and this is your chance to take a genuine behind-the-scenes look at this world class sporting facility in the company of an elite athlete.
The advantage of having an athlete as your guide is that you are with someone who is part of the process and can show you how they train and prepare for big events, such as the Olympic Games. This is real inside information, directly from the source! Feel free to ask questions about your guide’s plans for competition and what they think of their training regime. If you want to get philosophical, you can even ask about their hopes and aspirations.
During your tour you can also take on a sporting challenge and test your skills in Sportex, the interactive sports experience. In Sportex, you can see how you would measure up against elite athletes and world champions or discover how you rate as a rock-climber, wheelchair basketballer, soccer player or rower. Or, why not try your hand at snow skiing, skateboarding and other skill challenges! Or why not jump on the Gold, Silver, Bronze Olympic dais and see what it feels like to be an Olympic gold medalist!
You can also watch gymnasts in training; see some of Australia’s top swimmers doing their laps or bump into other sporting world champions. Other displays include nutrition, sports medicine and a legends tribute to some of Australia’s greatest champions. Oh, and make sure you visit the AIS shop for branded sports apparel and souvenirs or relax and refuel in the Café to complete a family friendly day out in Canberra.
