Terrific trip. Bus picked our family up from our hotel, transported us door to door. Our guide was very informative and friendly. Mayaland was a lovely property, buffet was delicious. Highly recommend this tour.
Excellent so glad I booked this tour. The tour guides and driver were really good. You got enough time to really have a good look around and no queuing. Thank you.
Was absolutely an incredible trip. First our driver Jorge was excellent and the tour guide Miguel was amazing. They were on time and very pleasant to spend the day with them. Miguel give us so much information about the history of this country. Thank you Jorge and specially Miguel.
I never expected a guided tour will be this good. Our tour guide is very knowledgeable and he is very proud of his Mayan background, passionately sharing his knowledge of the history and culture. The tour is very enjoyable, pick up from hotel, relaxing at another hotel near the site, lunch buffet, 3D movie Mayan skies. Recommend to anyone who doesn't have time to plan your own trip, or doesn't want to go through all the trouble.
We had a superb trip to Chichen Itza - our tour guide Carlos was so informative on the 2 hour drive to the pyramids which passed the time on the journey. On arrival at the site we were given our passes and then Carlos took us round the sights for almost 2 hours in blistering heat explaining everything in great detail with excellent photo opportunities. We then had lunch and a chance to sample the local food and also got a chance to see the locals dancing whilst eating. We left around 3.30 and were back in our Hotel for around 5.30 - a brilliant day and well worth the money and a must see trip when visiting Mexico.
To start with, our tour guide Carlos was incredible. His knowledge and understanding of the local area in general, as well as the Mayan and Toltec cultures was amazing. The tour included plenty of time to roam around at a reasonable pace and see history close up. After our tour we had a great lunch at the Mayan Hotel that included a huge buffet, drinks and really fun entertainment. Since it was quite hot, we opted to hang out in the shade at the hotel pool, where the kids had a ball. We traveled round trip in a great , air conditioned Mercedes bus that was very comfortable, with great visibility to view the passing scenery. We were dropped off back at our hotel tight on time, and all agreed that when we come back to Cancun we will take this tour again and spend more time exploring the ruins on our own after lunch. Thanks to the Viator folks for a wonderful day.
The local phone number for Mayanland Tours was incorrect. Please update that number for future guests. I also thought that the Spanish Speaking guests received a more through explanation than the English Speaking guests. Everything else was a top product
We had an awesome experience with Miguel as our tour guide. I am a Spanish teacher in the US, so I was really looking for an informative cultural experience that I would be able to take back to my classroom. Miguel was extremely informative, providing all the background on Mayan civilization that was needed to appreciate what we saw, while still pointing out specific details of the ruins in front of us. I am normally skeptical about following tour guide recommendations on which souvenir vendors to go to, but Miguel helped us to understand how to identify quality from the vendors. We went back to the gentlemen that Miguel had suggested to us, and because we spoke Spanish, we were able to talk with the men and they explained to us in detail all the different symbols on their Mayan carvings. They even taught me some Mayan phrases and wrote them down for me so that I could share them with my students.
The schedule of the day was perfect - we arrived early enough to enjoy the tour before the hottest part of the day, and then had free time after lunch to go back and explore as we wished. Viator also helped us handle the heat by providing cold water before and after the tour and umbrellas for the sun during the tour. I absolutely recommend this tour.
This was a 3 hr journey from Playa Del Carmen but well worth it. The bus was exactly as described and really comfortable. Our guide gave us some general info about the Mayans on the way there so this gave you an idea of how they lived etc. Once there he organised everything and had clearly done this many times, the man clearly knew everything and was more valuable than any guide book could be. Also the food at the Hotel was good I read in other reviews that people didn't know that they had to pay for there drinks but in our case the guide was very clear about it, as were the hotel. Great day out
It was a wonderful journey in time back to the Mayan civilization. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and that added to the memorable experience. Our group was small so you couldn't miss anything he had to say. This trip to one of the seven wonders of the world is worth the time it takes to get there.
One of the best tours ever - Our guide He is extremely well-informed on the history, archeology, and ecology , and runs a beautifully organized, well-planned tour. We spent almost three hours in Chichen Itza and saw everything. For a museum history archeology buff or anyone. car is comfortable and after tour we enjoyed MAYALAND.swimming pool and lunch....
Honestly, this was wonderful. I am glad I got the small group, my girlfriend and I had a good time. It was so hot, they gave us umbrellas and water when we got there. Food was good for lunch. Our tour guide Miguel was really informative. I didn't expect it to be such a pleasant time. We left at 8 from our hotel where they picked us up from and dropped us off by 630. I highly recommend this tour. The company they used when we booked via viator was grayline and we will use them again. Make sure to bring lots of sunscreen and wear light clothes. The views were beautiful and one of a kind. Very enriching with history.
I booked this tour prior to arriving in Cancun because of all the great reviews listed about Viator and also about what was in store, was exciting, because my Husband had never been. I had, actually was able to walk up all the way to the top back in the day. It was closed in 2007 according to our Guide, but I remember it. The pick up at the hotel was seamless and true to review the ride was quite comfortable, the tempature in the van was really nice too.We made a few stops along the way (what I found Strange) but propbably not so strange, we stopped and met other vehicles on the side of the roads to pick more people up,once we were at full capacity, which was about 18 of us or so we were on our way to Mayaland. We arrived on time, our Guide was already with us on the bus. The guide was super knowledgeable and carried around photos and other things he passed around to us for us to learn about the culture. He was very proud of his heritage and it showed through his love for the tour and what he was sharing with us. It is true to take extra money to buy if you want to buy souvenirs from the people trying to sell you everything as you are trying to make your way to the site. You will be asked to buy over and over, our guide was great in telling us what to look for in authentic pieces. After the tour of the site which was awesome. We returned to the hotel area for lunch. You will have to buy a Three Dollar (US) Soda if you want a drink. You will have to do this or you will not be allowed to drink anything! You are not allowed to take any waterbottles or any drink with you- I felt this was odd and over the top! Food was good, authentic but nothing I felt was amazing. All in All a Great Tour! You won't regret the experience. Try to visit the Chocolate museum they have free samples and we bought two bars to take home. Highly Reccomend Viator will use again on my next vacations.
Excellent tour. Meet all our expectations.
Mayaland facilities are really beautiful, the guide was always ready to answer any question. The transportation was comfortable (I am 6'-3"), and Chichen Itza is a magical place.
In few words: We love it!
Viator does it again. They have affiliated with a local, top notch tour company. Our experience was outstanding. We were picked up at our hotel in a comfortable Mercedes passenger van. There was a driver and english speaking tour guide. The guide (Miguel) was very knowledgeable and there was no question he could not answer. During the 2 hour ride to Chichen Itza, we took some side roads to see current Mayan villages. Yes, there are those direct decendants of the Mayan's who live in straw huts with no electricity and no bathrooms. We arrived at Mayaland Hotel, (a resort adjacent to the ruins) took a quick break then headed in from a private entrance away from all the other tour groups. The inside tour was 2 hours and Miguel shared stories about the Mayan life, culture and how the pyramids and other structures were built. After the tour, we headed back to the hotel enjoyed a lunch buffet with choices of BBQ chicken, hamburgers, salads, Mayan and Mexican foods. We had an additional 1 1/2 hrs after lunch to relax at the hotel or return to the ruins for additional look and photos. Back to van and Miguel offered cold cervezas to cool down on the ride back to the hotel. This is a 11 hour tour (hotel to location and back to hotel). Chichen Itza is in the jungle and it's hot. The tour includes water but you will need more. Bring your own as the vendors scalp you for your dollars. We spoke to others at our hotel who went to Chichen Itza with another tour company Those were worthless compared to the the royal treatment we had thru Viator. You may save a little money going elsewhere.. but the experience will not be the same. Side Note: We used Viator for our France Trip last year. Same level of quality. Purchased Eiffel Tower tickets thru Viator.. walked past the long lines at the tower to get in..and saved money by buying before the trip.
