Explore one of Mexico's largest parks. The Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve (meaning where the sky is born) has been an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. The park covers more than 1 million acres of coastal jungle and is home to over 350 bird species. The park is sanctuary for the great diversity of plants and animals that live in the savannahs, dunes, wetlands, mangroves and lagoons of the reserve.

Upon arrival, an experienced biologist will explain life in in the reserve and then you will begin your boat expedition through the wetlands. Deep in the heart of the virgin wilderness you will rediscover the ancient Xlapak temple, one of more than two dozen Mayan sites that have been uncovered in the reserve in various states of ruin. Evidence of habitation dates back at least 2,000 years but most sites uncovered belong to the post-Classic Period, around 1200 AD.

In the Xlapak area you can enjoy a swim in a freshwater channel through mangroves and savannah. Your guide will identify various vegetation and birds while you enjoy a snack and softdrinks.

Hiking through a jungle trail, you will discover another Maya archaeological site before arriving at the Cenote Escondido (an underground river) where snorkeling and swimming is a must! Finally enjoy at a tasty restaurant lunch before returning to you hotel.

Research is vital to ensuring adequate protection for the countless species of flora and fauna who call the reserve home. The tour operator works in collaboration with environmental experts including the World Wildlife Fund, the Ecotourism Society, the Smithsonian School and other leaders in the field of environmental protection.
