This was an incredible!! The bus was air conditioned, comfortable. Our guide Karen and the drivers were so friendly. The ceviche/sandwiches by the beach at the end were delicious. Would definitely try this again! Warning - bring motion sickness pills even if you've never experienced any before.
This was an unbelievable experience, better than I could ever express in words! I highly recommend purchasing a good, underwater camera. This is the only thing I regret about this experience - not having photos and video of our own to look back with. The tour guide did record the entire trip, but I did not want to spend $80 on a video with seven other people in it. Also - The lunch was great, wading in beautiful clear water while eating. We even came across wild dolphins and sea turtles!
Diving with these creatures is truly amazing. Our guide was terrific, very informative. Plus it's always a joy to go with someone who really loves what he does and he loves the animal. Take your Dramamine, wear a wet suit... have fun!
This was a once in a lifetime experience. We were lucky that the weather was fantastic. The boat ride to the whale sharks can be a little rough but we knew in advance and took motion sickness pills and we were both fine. I would highly recommend bringing them. A couple of people on the boat were ill.
A light breakfast is provided on the dock before you leave and you also get a chance to use the restrooms.
The whale shark experience was magic. Ecocolors seems to arrive before most of the other tourist boats arrive (booked through Viator with hotel pick up and our pick up was 6.30am) so you get in the water before the crowds arrive. You could see the sharks from the boat as soon as we arrived and as soon as we got in the water we were right there with them. They are amazing creatures. Snorkel and fins provided. My partner rented the wetsuit for $12USD and didn't have to wear the life vest, otherwise you do. I didn't find the vest to be that much of an issue.
We were in the water for over half an hour with these incredible creatures. We were lucky enough to have a GoPro and get some amazing shots. The tour guide does take video with the GoPro and you can buy a copy when you get back for $80USD. Yes, lunch is on the boat (not the island) near Isla Mujeres and you can take a swim in the calm waters before heading back. Our transfer had us back at the hotel by 12.30pm.
What I really liked about Ecocolors that they gave you a bit of information about the sharks first and if you deliberately try to touch them, you'll be removed. They seemed to respect these majestic creatures. We travelled from Australia just to do this tour and my expectations were exceeded. It's up there with the best $170AUD I've ever spent. Highly recommended!!
the guides were amazing, and the Whale Sharks are massive!
we saw so many on the day and were very lucky !
would def recommend
Fantastic day and good value. Will remember this for a long time.
Very exciting! Everything went smoothly, from pickup at hotel, to organization into various boats. My 14 year old son loved it.
Great trip, great staff especially Juan Carlos. Saw heaps of whale sharks. All in all a great day.
This tour far exceeded our expectations. From the hotel pickup to the hotel drop off. Once in a lifetime experience. We saw about 40 whale sharks and were able to snorkle with them as many times as we wanted.
This was an amazing experience. You get to do as many snorkel trips as you would like. You have to do more than one, the first one you really don't know what you are doing and end up with a view of the tail. It was amazing to swim alongside and above these huge fish!
There is no way of describing an experience like this except to say everyone should do it at least once in their lifetimes.
Take some dramamine! The boat ride to the Whale Sharks was about an hour over very rough waters. More than a few people got sea sick. The Whale Sharks (and Manta Rays) were beautiful but we got better pictures from on the boat. The water was very murky (we expected it though) and they are incredibly fast. The beach was beautiful and the guide (Synthia) was very nice and informative. I would definitely recommend splurging for the video. The wet-suit didn't really help, but we looked cool.
The tour itself was good- there are a lot of Whale Shark but caveat to others! Please do take seasickness pill...a week before doing this activity, we were island hoping in Galapagos and I believe that I've got strong stomach with waves. But when we've done this activity, the waves are so strong and rough that even my husband got sick (a lot of tourists from the other boats were throwing up).
On hindsight, we should have taken a pill so we could have enjoyed this trip more.
The overall experience was amazing. Nice to have a tour with small group numbers (our boat had 10 people). Expect a long boat ride and come prepared for rough waters (bring gravol or some other anti-nausea meds no matter how tough you think you are). Once the boat passes Isla Mujeres the sea can get quite rough, especially in the season these tours are offered. Our boat was the first to spot where the sharks were, but within half an hour there were roughly a dozen other boats swarming the area; which initially left me feeling a little bad for the animals, like they were being corralled into a petting zoo. However, there were plenty of the sharks around and all the boats seemed to be very mindful not to encroach into the experience by having a number of snorkelers around one fish. You are led by the guide in pairs and when under the water, you don't encounter anyone but the guide, your partner and the fish. Back on the boat, they offer water, soft drinks and juice. After everyone on the boat has had their fill of swimming with the sharks, they bring you to calmer waters for a small lunch. This tour is a little on the pricy side, but for the size of the group you go out with, and the experience alone, it's well worth the money.
The idea of this trip sounded amazing, but alas, it was not to be. The van pick up was fine, and the boat ride was ok as well. However, the day we went we only saw a single whale shark. Since it was the only shark in the area there were around 40 boats trying to see this fish. We had a few people that were able to get in the water, but they said it was too murky to actually see anything. We did see some dolphins, a manta ray, and had an excellent lunch... The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, but the cost is pretty high for what we got.
Tour took all day but we were in the water with a single whale shark for just a few minutes. There were about 20 boats surrounding one whale shark w 10 tourists on each boat. Operator refused to allow people to apply 100% all natural sunscreen. Most people on the tour were severely sunburned.
