The tour guide, Marco A I believe that was his name was excellent! The information he provided regarding the pyramid and other ruins was more than I would have expected. This trip to Chichen Itza will be one of my best memories of my trip to Mexico. Also, the price for this excursion was very reasonable.
This is a great tour - I really enjoyed the tour guide Frank - he was informative, friendly and fun. If you get a chance to take a tour with him, it's well worth it.
It was nice to arrive early as well. We had to leave our hotel early 5:30 AM, but it's worth it to get to Chichen Itza by 9:00 AM before the main crowds get there. Note - there will be a lot of people there already regardless, but nowhere near the number that will be there in the middle of the day. I was told that the site averages 15,000 people per day, and I believe it.
We stayed from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The tour lasted for a bit over 2 hours, and takes you to the main sites, which for us were the ball court, the temple of the warriors, the El Castillo main pyramid. At the end, you walk to the sacred cenote limestone pool. Then, you have around 40 minutes on your own where you can shop or take pictures. Be back at the bus by 12:10 PM.
We ran back to the Observatory building which is in another, older part of the ruins to get some pictures. We also stopped and did a bit of shopping from the Mayan vendors.
I would have liked to stay longer than the 3 hours but I could not find a tour that did that - the choices that I found were either arrive early or stay late, but not both.
Be prepared for heat. There are no mosquitoes - we brought repellant but it was not necessary. Suntan lotion is a must, and a hat and sunglasses will be welcome.
They give you a bag lunch which is nice - ham and cheese sandwich, fruit juice, banana and cookies. I suggest eating it on the bus so you don't have to carry it around with you at the site.
Our host Frank and driver Jacinto were amazing. Frank is Mayan and was able to provide us w/excellent knowledge about the Mayan culture prior to our arrival. Jacinto is a smooth driver. I was able to nap w/out a care in the world. Belen, our tour guide, was spectacular! He made our trip memoriable!
Our excursion to Chi chen Itza was very nice. The bus was on time, clean and we were met welcomed by our guide Frank and driver Jacinto. We were supplied with a bag lunch, we stopped for bathroom breaks and the ride was pleasant. Once we got there Frank was very knowledgeable and informative. It was a very pleasant excursion. I would certainly take another tour with this company.
Frank was great as a tour guide. He was very informative, kept everyone's attention, and was polite and convenient with timing. I would highly recommend this particular tour due to the early access and awesome tour guide. The transportation was comfortable. I only wish I had known in advance about all the vendors that would be there selling items, it would have been great to support the local economy and take home some authentic items. I missed out because I couldn't get it in my luggage!
Very informative , brilliant tour guide Frank ,lots of fun appreciate early morning, highly recommended
Thanks to Frank had a great time and loved the information given to us about Chichen Itza. highly recommend
Chichen Itza is probably the most complex set of pyramids in Mexico and the tour was amazing. We got there early and were able to see the entire site and explore before the tour buses arrived and before it got too hot. Our guides were awesome and we were back in Cancun early enough to still cath some sun on the beach.
Frank our guide was superb, passionate and very informative. He helped us to understand Chichen Itza , the early access your is the way to go as even at 9am the heat was very hot, thanks too to Jacinto our driver
We had the most amazing time with this tour. Frank is a great tour guide, he provides many interesting information about the place and he is very friendly. Early access is crucial for Chichen Itza since it gets really really hot and crowded. I highly recommend this tour.
We would highly recommend. Tour guide Freddie and driver Ramon were excellent. Freddie was knowledgeable and took extra time to explain the significance of the different parts of the site. Going early was a plus with smaller crowds and cooler weather.
Fantastic, very informative tour.
Frank, our tour guide had great knowledge and was able to comprehensively answer all of our questions. Our coach driver, Jacinto was friendly and an extremely safe driver.
I would definitely recommend this tour, which was operated through A Tours.
This was an awesome tour and I recommend it highly.
I did not know how much to expect of it when I booked on Viator, but the reviews seemed good so I went for it. Travelling with a young child and elderly parents, I was worried. But starting with the pre-tour notifications from Amigo Tours, a prompt pickup at 5:00 am as was promised, to the clean and nicely maintained air-conditioned bus, and of course our jovial and knowledgeable tour guide Freddy and driver Jacinto, everything was perfect.
We reached Chichen Itza around 9, and the heat was tolerable. The crowds were minimal at the time. By the time we were boarding the bus again after 3 hours of guided and free touring, the place was swarming with tourists and was unbearably hot.
Recommend this to everyone interested in avoiding the crowds and the burning sun. To my family, it was worth waking up early.
We are still talking about our trip to Chichen Itza. At 60, this was the perfect tour length for us. We were picked up at our hotel at 5:30 a.m. and rode the 2 plus hour trip in an air conditioned bus. We were given a lunch, that was mediocre, but enough to keep us going for the day. Since we had early access to the park we were able to beat the crowds that were lined up as we were leaving. The tour was about an hour and a half with an hour of free time afterwards to shop the vendors or visit other areas of the grounds. Our tour guide, Frank, was amazing. As a Mayan descendant, his passion for his people, his heritage and the history of the Mayans was evident. We learned a lot and came away with a new appreciation for this brilliant people and what they accomplished. He was able to tell us a lot of background of the buildings, the symbolism, the architectural phenomenons and what brought it to an end. It truly is difficult to wrap your mind around. This was a 100 degree day, but we were in and out before the peak of the day and back to our hotel by four to enjoy a relaxing evening. We would highly recommend this tour. Even if you are not a fan of history you will come away with a new understanding, respect and appreciation for these people.
Freddie was great. Take a blanket or shawl for morning ride. Youll want to sleep. Very good value and the early morning allows to see the ruins without crowds.
Freddie was a great guide with all the information and even Mayan words. Would highly recommend it to get there early and be able to see it. Jacinto was a great driver
I booked this tour online shortly before we left on our trip and was a little concerned about confirming the hotel pickup time as we were arriving in Cancun late on the day before our tour. I needn't have worried as a prompt email gave me the information the day before we left home. The bus arrived on time at our hotel and everything went very smoothly.
Our guide Frank was great, very informative and entertaining during the drive and during our tour of the extraordinary Chichen Itza site. Ramon was a very good, safe driver. Afterwards we were dropped at our hotel first which was good because we'd been picked up first --and earliest!
Despite the early start getting to the site at 9am was brilliant because by the time we left at 12 it was hot and everyone was beginning to wilt. Other groups were just arriving!
Don't underestimate the sun and be prepared to walk and stand for some time around the ruins in limited shade. Hats and water are a must. We came prepared and thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Clapping in front of the main temple and hearing the astonishing echo effect is something we'll never forget!
It was well worth waking up early. We were there and gone before the crowds and the hot blazing sun. Freddy was an amazing guide. His knowledge was relevant and came from his beliefs as a Mayan himself.
The bus was a large tour bus. The driver (sorry can and #39;t remember his name) was safe and careful.
We had a wonderful tour to Chichen Itza and our tour guide Frank was awesome. Ramone was our bus driver. High fives to them both for an amazing day!
This was a great trip. Leaves VERY early but definitely worth it to have a more private experience.
Frank was a Mayan himself, very knowledgeable and interesting. Gave us a 2 hour tour, which included many fascinating facts about the culture. Ramon was an excellent driver. We really appreciated the bottle of cold water on the trip back to our resort. The bus came on time and a couple of bathroom breaks were taken. A wonderful day trip!!!!
Our trip was awesome! Ramon and Conrad did an outstanding job! It was an experience of a lifetime and I highly recommend it.
We loved the early access tours. It was well worth the early start. We could have used more time but it was getting hot and crowded when we left.
Franck was our tour guide and him and his driver were nothing short of FABULOUS! I had such a wonderful time listening to his insight on the Mayan culture. He is passionate and very funny. He kept my attention with everything he had to say about Chichen Itza. I am an archaeology major and I STILL learned so much. Be prepared for hot weather and wear comfortable shoes. I recommend bringing an umbrella for the best sun protection. We avoided the intense heat by departing early in the morning and leaving the site around noon. Go on this tour, you won't regret it!!
