What You Can Expect
Perhaps start with a cable car ride up Table Mountain, the city’s famous UNESCO World Heritage site. The ride is at your own expense and subject to good weather conditions, but once at the top the views are magnificent. Alternatively, skip the ride and travel up Signal Hill by minivan. The hill is a classic Cape Town vantage point and a picturesque spot for ogling the city and beach vistas.
Return to town for a walking tour around Cape Town itself. Wander past Company’s Gardens, a colonial-era park boasting a pretty Rose Garden and large fish pond, and then stroll to the Castle of Good Hope. Pose for photos by the star-shaped fort while hearing tales of its 17th-century history when the Dutch East India Company built it.
Walk along Grand Parade and past several sites linked to the city’s tenuous history with slavery such as Slave Lodge and the Old Slave Tree, and gaze at top Cape Town attractions including the Houses of Parliament and District Six Museum. Greenmarket Square and St George’s Mall are also worked in to your route.
Return to your minivan for a visit to Noon Gun — Cape Town’s historical time signal — plus the colorful neighborhood of Bo-Kaap. Stop for photos by the candy-colored houses, and hear how the district has changed from a shanty town to a vibrant city neighborhood with a melting pot of cultures.
Enjoy a break at the V&A Waterfront for lunch and perhaps a boat ride around the harbor (both at your own expense). After enjoying some free time, meet back up with your guide, and then relax on a scenic drive alongside the Atlantic coastline. Watch the waves crashing against the jagged shores, and pass through swanky neighborhoods such as Clifton and Camps Bay. Your tour then finishes with a drop-off at your Cape Town hotel.
Terrific private full day tour for my husband and myself, reasonably priced, with Eon as our guide. I highly recommend him. We only had a couple days before our cruise so we wanted to maximize our experience. He arrived on time and in addition to suggesting key area highlights, as this was our first trip, but he made sure he took us to where we wanted to go, as opposed to just following a set route. We started with the Table Mountain gondola on this glorious day and beat the crowds, then went to see the noon gun go off on Signal Hill. Eon even knew from which angle and when to get the best photo. He also took us to colorful local neighborhoods and gave us a great overview of the city in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Then on to Kirkenbosch Gardens for a walk and lunch. He really knows Cape Town and was also willing to openly talk about local culture and political issues, which we are always interested in on our tours. He inspired a desire to return to Cape Town and do more tours in this fascinating area. Five stars plus!
What an amazing day we had!!! Our guide was brilliant, Andrew knew all the best places to go, showed us the true Cape Town, a mix of history, culture, and present day, showing us all the sights and the best places to go, and helping us with all our stupid questions!!!
This tour was amazing!
Wonderful day with a great tour guide, he showed us everything!
The guide was excelent, very friendly and knowledgeable . Everything was great
Eon was an outstanding tour guide....we loved his personal touches and knowledge. One of the best we've ever had.
It was probably not quite what I expected. I did have the tour guide who was very knowledgable but I felt like I was just getting the same tour that would have been done with a group but without the group. I was under the impression that I could have had more flexibility in what I was able to ask to see/do but this did not really transpire. He did take me to a couple of places that probably would not go to on the tour such as the noon day gun. I did have some ideas of what I wanted to see but still felt I was being taken on the normal tour path. As it was much more expensive having your own guide I would suggest that it is made clear to the tour guide that there should be more flexibility around what the individual may want to see or do. Maybe because this is a new initiative it is still being ironed out.
