A brilliant tour not only of Christchurch itself but also the surrounding areas in a lovely old London Routemaster RM bus. We went merrily up hills and down dales in the Bus, luckily they have put in a reinforced engine to the one we were on, as we certainly chugged up and down with the bus working very hard. Lovely commentaries both inside Christchurch on an open-topped bus and then afterwards changing buses to a closed-topped RM for the views around the bar and environs.
Be warned - Christchurch is still looking rather poorly after all the earthquake activity over the past few years. They are working hard to restore it, but there is plenty of work still to do and plenty to see and hear about on this brilliant tour.
If you are in Christchurch you have to do this tour. We ha not really appreciated how much of the city was destroyed 5 years ago. They are doing a great job rebuilding. If you go before next January make sure you visit the restart mall, you will see just how resilient people can be.
Christchurch has been through so much with the devastating earthquakes the last few years, this was a really good way to and appreciate the rebirth of this beautiful city.
The open top was good. Good explanations about the town on how they have recovered from the earthquakes from 4 years ago. On the cover bed bus, I was the only passenger on it so was quite personal when I was speaking to Carl and getting explanations
So glade we did this tour, the Double Decker buses were great with a wonderful view, well worth the money
Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the driver but was excellent. We had a very insightful commentary on where Christchurch is at at the moment and it brought out al sorts of emotions and ideas. The driver did an excellent job showing us the inter city and what is happening etc. As my father in law and I were the only ones on the bus for the second part, we were taken by request, to Sumner, Redcliffs, stopped for a cuppa and the driver then took us up some hills. We had frequent stops to view the city and surrounds and to see, first hand the devastatin that Canterbury has suffered. We had lots explained. A wonderful Christchurch experience. My thoughts are that the council/government should get on with the housing and the sports fields and cathedral, can wait!!!!!!!!
gorgeous day for riding on the open upper deck.
very interesting seeing what still has to be done nearly 4 years after the first quake to make the city whole again!
Great Experience. An open air trip through the city was great. It was great to see how they are rebuilding. Well Done!! Following that a closed tour to the outskirts and seaside towns then up the mountain for spectacular views. Returning to the city on time. Our guide was informative as well as entertaining.
Wish I could have taken it. We were on a cruise ship that docked in Akaroa, we did not know that Christchurch was 1 1/2 hours away. Busses run only in the morning from Akaroa so we missed out. Make sure to plan on that bus trip into Christchurch to catch the sightseeing tour. The company was great to work with after getting home.
We thoroughly enjoyed the three hour bus trip. Very interesting commentary. Would recommend this sight seeing tour.
The guide showed a lot if interest and passion for the city. He showed a lot of interest and also showed genuine knowledge and interest in the city.
The tour was great and the commentary on both coaches was very good we felt as if we were with old friends and were especially grateful to be dropped off at our accommodation - a nice very much appreciated end to our tour.
A very informative tour of city centre, with a very compelling story. We'll done.
A great way of seeing the sites of Christchurch at a reasonable cost.
The reconstruction tour was both informative and heartwarming.
Is a cool tour. Wouldn't recommend the add-on trip to Sumner but the city tour is definitely worthwhile. Really interesting to see the earthquake damage still in the town.
Tour guide kept forgetting what he was going to say and kept saying will get back to us.
The first hour seeing the city was well worth my time, and quite insightful regarding the impact of the earthquakes on Christchurch. The second part of the trip - 2 hours out into the countryside - was not at all worth the extra time and cost.
Despite the destruction of the city by the 2011 earthquake, the guide made the tour iinteresting.
First hour inner city of Christchurch... Very knowledgeable driver who did a nice job of showing us the destruction of the inner city due to the earthquakes. Absolutely worthwhile. Very sad story. Also sad is the rebuild being slowed down so much by political correctness, a left leaning council, and probably some corruption. He did give upbeat news about local rugby!
Second and third hour surrounds of Christchurch... save your money and do it without their bus or guide.
