This full-day tour allows you to enjoy two of Costa Rica's most popular attractions in just one day. You’ll explore the crater of Poas Volcano before visiting La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park and Wildlife Refuge, home of the world's largest butterfly farm observatory.
First you will visit Poas Volcano, where you can admire the impressive and imposing crater of the volcano, which is 1.7 miles (2,708 meters) above sea level. On the way to the volcano, there will be a stop and a brief explanation on Costa Rica's "grain of gold", coffee. The trip then continues as you pass strawberry fields, ferns, and flowers before arriving at the volcano, where you will have time to observe the main crater and sulfur fumaroles.
At La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park and Wildlife Refuge, you will discover one of the world's largest butterfly farm observatories. The butterfly observatory is the length of a football field and reaches heights of 50 feet (15 meters). This enclosed structure allows butterflies to soar freely while guests walk amid their habitat.
Here you can observe 22 different butterfly species in their natural habitat, learning about their intriguing metamorphosis cycle. You will also see a fascinating hummingbird garden with 24 different species, a frog pond with nocturnal, diurnal and poisonous frogs, a serpentarium with 30 of the most beautiful snakes in the country and an orchid garden containing the national flower.
