The delightful white village of Mijas, famous for its donkey-drawn taxis, sits high atop the mountains with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and several municipalities of the Costa del Sol below.
Visit the Virgen de la Pena Chapel (sanctuary of the Virgin of the Rock, the local patron saint). Legend has it that some local children discovered the image of the virgin, hidden for several hundred years between the walls of an old castle to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Arabs who ruled the region for eight centuries.
Leaving Mijas, you will head to Fuengirola where you will have free time to shop and explore the local weekly market. Fuengirola has the biggest market on the coast and sells everything from fresh produce to local handicrafts.
