What You Can Expect

Mary River Wetlands Cruise from Darwin

Jabiru Stork

Located just an hour’s drive east of Darwin, the Mary River wetlands is biodiverse gem of the Northern Territory’s ‘Top End,’ or northernmost section. Board a comfortable air-conditioned coach in central Darwin in the morning, and enjoy the drive as your guide shares onboard commentary. Try your hand at kangaroo and wallaby spotting as you cruise through the bush and the Outback town of Humpty Doo.

When you arrive at Corroboree Billabong, board a high-powered speedboat that will carry you through the verdant wetlands of the Mary River. The area is home to Australia’s largest population of saltwater crocodiles, so be sure to keep a lookout for the scaly creatures gliding just below the water lilies!

Learn about the area’s natural history from your guide as you wind through waterways and mangrove forests. Keep your camera handy for up-close views of wild birdlife spanning herons, kingfishers, kites, sea eagles and jabiru storks.

After 1.5 hours on the water, climb back aboard the coach and relax on the return drive to your Darwin hotel.

What a wonderful experience. Gliding along the water, seeing exotic birds, crocodiles resting on banks, wallabies by the water's edge and beautiful water lilies . Very pristine, unspoilt environment alive with wildlife. An unforgettable experience. Our guide on the boat was wonderful.

Our day trip to Mary River Wetlands was a wonderful experience. It began when I asked about car parking in the city of Darwin for the duration of our package deal only to be told that we would be picked up and dropped off at our hotel. We could just relax and enjoy our time on the wetlands without worry. Our driver and guides were friendly and happy. All up it was a great day.
