Begin your Irish day trip by traveling 8 miles (13 kilometers) southeast of Dublin to the former Viking settlement of Dalkey. Here you'll head straight to pretty Dalkey Castle, where you’ll see an entertaining live theater performance of actors depicting the lives of their Tudor ancestors. Chat with the Dalkey Castle cook preparing a Tudor banquet and gain insight into life during the Middle Ages.
Back on board your luxury coach, you'll take the scenic coastal road to Killiney Bay, passing stunning coastline framed by the Great Sugar Loaf mountain. Dolphins often frequent the Killiney Bay waters, so be sure to bring your camera! The beautiful coastal area is home to Ireland’s rock star royalty – you'll pass the celebrity home of Bono (lead singer from U2) while traveling.
From Killiney Bay, you’ll travel to Avoca Handweavers Mill, the oldest working mill in Ireland, set in the unique grounds of the old Jameson whiskey estate. You’ll have the chance to enjoy lunch (not included in tour price) in one of Avoca’s award-winning cafes.
The next stop on your day trip from Dublin is the Kilmacurragh Botanical Gardens, founded during the 19th century. This was a time of great botanical exploration, when foreign plant species were introduced to Ireland for the first time. Kilmacurragh’s unique soil and microclimate helped these plants survive and flourish. With your knowledgeable guide, explore the garden's majestic arboretum, famed for its conifer trees and avenues of colorful Rhododendron flowers.
Rounding off your day trip, you’ll visit Avondale House, a stately 18th-century Georgian home set in a magnificent forest. You’ll be treated to a guided tour of this opulent building as well as an audio-visual presentation. Enjoy a final stretch of your legs by strolling around the 500-acre estate, before returning to Dublin.
