This was a really great tour if you want to venture out of Dublin but not spend many hours in a coach. Kilkenny was a lovely place to visit, especially the castle. Having time to ourselves was good and we could have happily stayed longer. Glendalough is an amazing place to visit with extensive remains of the old monastery and you get a small taste of rural Ireland on the trip back to the city through the mountains. Our gude displayed both his knowledge and passion for Ireland. We were entertained and educated by his commentary. A wonderful day.
We had the chance of a picture perfect day, not a cloud in sight and it was magnificent. I really enjoyed the stroll in the wood beetwen the two lakes, the beautiful views from the higher one, how the forest reflects in the other. The Dunmore Cave is interesting but you don't miss much if you don't go. The drive through the Wiklow Mountains was fabulous.
A great place to go. Neat place and wish we had more time there. Plan on going back and taking the DART to spend the entire day.
the tour guide with a very strange name was excellent
lots of history
i would have loved to stay longer kilkenny
the driver, Mike, was excellent also
Great experience. If you want to stay longer in Kilkenny or Glendalough get 2 separate trips
September 3,2014 booked through Viator and company doing the trip was Wild Rover Tours. Janine our guide was awesome. She was informative and very professional. We really enjoyed the sites we visited. We enjoyed the music played during bus ride. Sean did great with bus maneuvers. Would recommend this tour also had photo stop in Wicklow on way to Glenalough.
Great tour, beautiful scenery for Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough. I did the Dunmore Cave as well and it was lovely! Because of doing the Dunmore Cave, I have less time in Kilkenny city itself. I would hope that the tour company can allocate more time for the overall tour so that everyone can go to the Dunmore Cave and have sufficient time in Kilkenny as well. My favourite is still the Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough, superb view and great opportunities for photographs. Great tour guide as well.
I highly recommend this tour. Jim was our tour guide and he did a fabulous tour. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and the history of the country-side. We skipped the caves and had a wonderful time exploring Kilkenny. We took Jim's recommendation for lunch and it was fabulous. My favorite part of the trip was visiting Glendalough. I really think this tour was the highlight of my trip to Ireland. If you are staying in Dublin and looking for a great day trip, I highly recommend this one.
Wonderful day trip into the Irish countryside. Andrew did a great job as our guide, providing a lot of interesting information about not only the places we visited on the tour, but the small towns and areas in between. Our driver, Karl, did a wonderful job of negotiating the narrow roads. This is a fabulous day trip to several beautiful sites; I would highly recommend this tour.
The only comment I would have to improve this trip was that the order of the day was changed, so that we did Glendalough first and then headed to Kilkenny. This made for a very late lunch, particularly for the folks in our group that did the caves (didn't get back to Kilkenny until about 3:30). Better communication about the timing of the day would have been helpful, as we would have grabbed a snack at Glendalough to tide us over.
Everything was great. Tour guide - Rob, driver Karl (with a K!) We were picked up in Dublin city center and got some information about Dublin as we set out. In between each stop, we were given a history lesson of all the places we were to see.
When you arrive in Kilkenny, you are given a choice on whether you want to stay in Kilkenny for 3 hours or go to the cave and only spend 1 hour in Kilkenny. We stayed in Kilkenny the whole time and it was great as we had a 2 year old with us and he really enjoyed the children's playground outside Kilkenny Castle and we were able to have a more slow-paced visit.
Then we arrived in the Wicklow Gap and took pictures for about 15 min. Then we stopped at Glendalough to visit the lakes. This was our family's favorite part, however, even though you get 1.5 hours here, it takes a big chunk of time (25 min) basically hiking up to the upper lake, wasn't expecting that!
All-in-all, I would recommend this trip to anyone especially given the value!
Absolutely fantastic, tour guide knew exactly what he was on about. Would recommend to everybody to go on. Would go again in a heart beat :)
If you want to see a castle and spend some time in a nice little town, I would recommend this tour. The bus driver was very nice, the bus clean and comfortable and we enjoyed everything we saw.
Great trip to Kilkenny and Glendalough. Just enough background and history to make the sites enjoyable. We explored Kilkenny on our own. It is a small but delightful city with some striking vistas. Glendalough is beyond words, the lake is magical and seems to float and flow into the horizon. It is a short walk to the lake (about 1 mile) but the ground can be rough for some. Andrew, our tour guide, was great, well--spoken and funny with his dry Irish humor! There was plenty of time to explore both venues as well.
