This trip is a dream for the archaeology lover! This trip was on a small bus (30-ish seats) so it wasn't as frantic as the 50+ seater tours I had been on. Much more low key. The tour guide/driver we had was fantastic, Harry I think was his name. He was full of knowledge and, like every Irish person seems to be, full of stories. Definitely one of my favorite tours!
This was an amazing tour! The whole day was everything I had hoped for. The people at the tour company were friendly and knowledgeable, making the trip really wonderful. I went on June 21st, which is the wrong solstice for Newgrange, but still a good choice. This is a wonderful change from the typical castle and cathedral tour. Our tour guide really knew his history and folklore, and it was great hearing all of the things I didn't know about the area. If you are going to Ireland, you definitely have to go on this tour. The only thing that would have made it better is if the obelisk had vibrated when I touched it!
On a housekeeping note, bus drivers and taxi drivers in Dublin need to learn which tourist information centre the tours go out of. My bus driver and someone else's taxi driver directed us to one that was farther up O'Connell St. That one didn't open until after our tour was due to leave, and it took stopping in several small shops on the streets to find out exactly where the trip was leaving from (we ordered our tickets online, and it's the one closest to the river.)
This tour was very interesting - informative and diverting at the same time. We learned a lot about Ireland's history, mythology, politics and sports on the way, without being bored for a minute... Harry is a wonderful guide with great knowledge and a fine sense of humor - a born entertainer!
Some confusion on the part of the cabby about the pickup location, but once that was settled the trip went smoothely. Maybe could have used a smaller bus.
It was FABULOUS - and Harry made it all happen. A terrific guide and really cool person. I recommend this tour highly. My only caveat was that it was a little hard to find the travel office. A pickup at our hotel would have been nice since we had to take a taxi and he wasn't sure where it was. The street address was a little strange. But Harry - oh Harry. Just simply wonderful.
Excellent tour, knowlegable guide. Well planned and logistics handled very well.
Michael, our driver/guide, was excellent in all ways! Thanks so much!
This was wonderful! I highly recommend. The tour guide, I wish I could remember his name, he was a retired policeman (Garda), was so knowledgeable and friendly. Fantastic experience.
This is a wonderful tour. The guide was well informed and a great tour guide.
Loved this trip -- it was so wonderful to learn so much about early Irish history. And the visit inside Newgrange was awe-inspiring! Michael was a great guide for the entire day.
The driver was very friendly and knew a great deal about the history of many of the stops along the way. The tour was everything they promised and more. Very Satisfied.
The guide was delightful. He provided an excellent account of the Hills and New Grange without being boring or pedantic. You could tell his love of his country and the pride he took in relating historical facts about the location. We went on tour with a different travel agency to other parts of the country, but our trip to New Grange and the Hills of Tara through Viator remains one of the best experiences we had.
Comfortable bus, friendly and knowledgeable guide, ancient place made it a perfect day!
This was a fascinating tour - Newgrange looks like it came from outer space, but is older than the pyramids. The tour guide was excellent, probably the best we have ever had in our 35 years of touring Europe.
